I knew a conservative trek fan. He preferred the nuTrek shows and complained the 90s shows were too “moralizing”

I’m not even a star trek fan and I cringed viscerally
The reason they find the old shows “moralizing” is because they not only don’t think a better world is possible, they don’t think it’s desirable.
i mean the default star wars setting (as a republic) is a hyper capitalist loose confederation libertarian society (with slavery!) dotted by ethnostate planets and policed by a theocratic guardian council
this is the thing the rebellion is trying to restore (excluding the actual anarcho-“leftists” in the movement that get co-opted)
I thought the confederacy of independent systems evolved into the rebelion after the sith killed their leaders? At least parts of it.
they are part of the coalition but just like the anarchists they inevitably get co-opted by the restorationalists (leia, mon mothma etc)
I know a conservative rage against the machine fan
Rage against Bedtimes and Eating Vegetables!
(rebellious conservative kid with lib parents, music sounds angry. That’s my assumption, anyway)
They are 56

is his name Paul and did he used to be in congress?

My 77 year-old aunt is one of these people. She’s the weirdest mix of nerd and 1950s-era western kid.
