Every new American tech product seems to try to be the new Apple

And none of them seem to understand that Apple got big because they made consumer friendly stuff that worked and was an alternative to the bloated and locked down stuff from their competition, then they started doing all the shitty stuff once they got big enough. They just try to go straight for the cult of personality for their products.
