Individualism isn’t real. The freedom of any individual depends on the restrictions placed on other individuals, which leads you to collectivist thought. Individualism is just another word for the right to oppress, but when your average person on the street says they believe in individualism, they think it means “freedom for everyone” or some nonsense. The US (or any other capitalist nation for that matter) doesn’t have individualism as a core value, it has a bunch of robber barons in charge who are squeezing the rest of the country dry. They don’t do this because they think it’s the correct way to run a society, they don’t do it because they “believe in individualism”, they do it because it makes them wealthy and powerful. Individualism is little more than a farcical, meaningless pretense, one of the many ways capitalists justify their power over others. It’s not a real belief system unless you’re Ayn Rand or one of her moronic acolytes.
