I can genuinely see the US doing something like that, I won’t be surprised if the CIA have been pushing out left-wing ultras-fans culture in football and replacing with far-right chud shit.
In the UK it’s not so much that it’s in football anymore, the hooliganism was cracked down on and everyone doing it was banned. The problem is that Tommy Robinson and his lot are basically trading on the exact same culture that used to exist in the old hooliganism, but now they’re doing it outside of football under the nationalism banner.

The sport is really useful for encouraging micro-nationalist behaviour at a local level in a sort of tribal chest beating way, and then transposing that behaviour onto national politics.
