I think it’s still a shameful fact about our society that a garbage company like Meta, which produces nothing of actual value and is deepeinto shitty practices, could be valuable at all, let alone be a tech giant

Same here. I never had a Facebook account but all I know is that the 3 billion (3 fucking billion users!) use it to talk to their family (instead of using a phone), watch pretty pictures, and read fake news. What’s the fucking point?

I suppose, but for a geek like him that hardly seems satisfying, it’s pretty old territory. I wonder if these guys are ever stuck with the monster they created, he keeps getting pumped up for new stuff like Metaverse but that just fails. Honestly it feels like these guys are just trying to fast forward the future instead of letting it happen organically, and with people’s consent lol.

In April, Meta explained some of the calculus behind its shifting financials, noting that it was increasing 2026 capital expenditures to between $125 billion and $145 billion.

Personnel costs are a rounding error compared to this shit. If they spend $125B instead of $145B and spent the savings on the 8,000 they just fired, they’d each make $2.5 million.
