    Exactly, permanent DST buys you an extra hour of daylight in the evening, at the cost of having to do morning stuff with 1 hour earlier levels of sunlight.

        NYC is north of most of America. The earliest the sun sets is 430, itll be 530. So yeah in the absolute worst case, northern people in the dead of winter, they will drive home as the sun sets instead of at night. But later in the year and further south, it will give you meaningful time at home during daylight. I do kinda wonder if itll increase car accidents for people who drive to New Jersey after work.

          …i think we’re talking across each other: my point is that the majority of american workers currently commute home after dark in the dead of winter (as do i at 30° latitude, with most of the population north of me), so more than half of the country don’t even see the sun set…

                5pm is standard, throw in 30-45 minute commute, I’d wager roughly half of americans have better conditions, half worse.
