my first 3d model using blender, please clap. i made it by following this tutorial that was posted here by a comrade not too long ago (and with the help of another comrade that explained things further for me).
i actually had a lot of fun making it and i’m interested in learning more! does anyone know of any other good beginner tutorials that i could try?

Blender is super intimidating to me, I’m always impressed by people who try to learn it! Well done!
aaa thank you! it was really intimidating to me too but now i’m really motivated to keep at it!!
The only blender I can operate is the one i use to make pb and bamana soymilk smoothies. Yim yum
Ceci n’est pas une mug
They aren’t the most sophisticated videos, but I like the old FPS modelling tutorials from Single Sapling Games. They hadn’t posted for aaaages and randomly started uploading again since I was last tutorial binging, so I only vouch for the older stuff but I’m sure the newer stuff is good too. Don’t be put off by the fact that he’s creating assets for a 3D engine, it wasn’t relevant for my use case but the actual blender teaching is widely applicable.
Some of these have follow up videos / are multipart, but these are the jumping off points I learned from and what I go back to when I need to refresh my memory
How to make any gun in blender: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIWwdmn6-WY This one’s good for non-organic modelling and seems like a logical next step after the mug.
Low Poly FPS Arms Model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvyAUMID0iw I like this because it kinda helps bridge between non-organic and organic/characters.
Mid/ High Poly FPS Arms Model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtDNTFJNTsE If I remember right this one is an optional path that builds on the last tutorial. I don’t know why its an hour long though lol.
Low Poly Zombie Model In Blender: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wbcbbw5tXIQ This reuses the low poly arm from the other tutorial, so you aren’t just building towards a nice set of disembodied arms and no use for them.
There’s also shading / texturing, rigging and animation tutorials for each of them. Very satisfying imo.
thanks for these! i got a small start on the first tutorial! my goal is to hopefully make a recognizable dprk type 68 pistol :3c
I found YouTube links in your comment. Here are links to the same videos on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

I always love the looks of blender models, it’s like, how do I explain someone who doesn’t do art? … it’s not “washed out” but the light looks very warm and inviting on the 3D models. idk what I’m talking about lmao
Diffuse?
What’s that?
Like, it’s to describe lighting that isn’t harsh, it’s kind of spread more or less evenly across the surface of the subject with soft highlights, could describe the lighting effect you like
Yeah it’s probably that
It’s also the placement of the light source. If you look to where the brighter spots are. If you put a clock face over the image the light source is around 1oclock. I am going to regret using the clock face thing here, that is just about the positioning! Nothing to do wirh time! But a light source coming from that angle with diffused light and warm shading kinda implies a sunny morning. People tend to interpret the sun on the right side as morning and left side as evening
Didn’t know that about the light source placement, that’s really interesting!
I learned it in non digital art stuff.
nice cup!
thank youuu :D
