This. People were already protesting ICE long before Renée Good got killed. The racists, white supremacists, and nazis are still not protesting today. They don’t care if a murdered protestor is white. A Nazi is going to view any white protesters as race traitors. What’s happening right now is a dramatic shift in the scope of what ICE is doing. Rather than simply targeting immigrants, it’s being deployed against protestors and in crowd control efforts. The extent of people they’re targeting and how they’re targeting them is dramatically expanding as well.
In 2025, at least 32 people died in custody after being detained by ICE. This has caused massive protests nationwide.
But in 2025, there were only 2 people known to have been shot and killed by ICE:
Silverio Villegas González - September 12 - undocumented immigrant shot and killed by ICE in his car after dropping his kids off at school in Chicago. Video circulated online of his window getting broken out and him getting dragged out of the car after being shot.
Keith Porter - December 31 - African American father shot and killed in Los Angeles while allegedly setting off fireworks. There are no videos of what happened.
The first people shot and killed by ICE in 2026 include:
Renée Good - January 7 - woman shot and killed in her vehicle in Minneapolis. Videos of the incident circulated online. She was not actively protesting.
Alex Pretti - January 24 - protestor murdered execution style in Minneapolis for attempting to help a woman get safely to a sidewalk.
That’s it. This image includes completely incorrect information. Jaime Alanís Garcia died from breaking his neck after allegedly falling 30 feet from a building while a cannabis farm was being raided by ICE in Ventura County, California. ICE and CBP claims they were not targeting him. There’s no video of the incident.
Stuff is dramatically escalating, and it’s presumably about to get much much worse.

That’s pretty much what I mean.
This post is insinuating that a number of the people upset now should have been upset when it wasn’t white people dying.
And I agree. Many of us were already upset.
But making that point this way is unhelpful. It feels like potentially a way to divide those who are trying to resist. “I was angry before it was mainstream, you new protesters are racists.”
Which could very well not be the intention of the person making the point. They could be trying to simply say, “Understand that people had already been killed, and if you knew that and weren’t angry, be better” or something.
But it is so incredibly easy to make people in big tents infight and focus on idealogical purity rather than uniting to fight the opposition. And it’s something we need to avoid if we want to be successful.
When it comes to fighting fascism, my enemy’s enemy is my friend.
So on the assumption that this comic was posted in good faith, I think merciful correction or gentle disagreement is more useful.

Lots of people, myself included, have been angry about this for awhile now. But also, deaths in 25 were more than twice as high than the next highest listed. And 27 shootings 3 fatalities just in this year, and January isn’t even over. Yeah, even more people are obviously going to be angry.

Nothing makes this more obvious than the pro-gun Republicans suddenly pushing back on ICE for murdering Pretti. If he was a Somali migrant with a gun they would be absolutely silent, it’s only because he was a white man that they’re upset.
Instead of getting mad at OP for pointing out the facts, recognize that we can use this. White people have a really important duty to put their bodies on the line to fight ICE, because when they get injured or killed it upsets white society.
Nah, typical 2A “enthusiasts” care a lot more about whether that person was carrying a firearm legally, under whatever applicable laws. In some states, that is no law at all. In MN, it’s a permit.
Granted, a lot of Republican gun owners would make a racially biased assumption that a Somali migrant is less likely to have a proper permit, and those same folks have a lot more benefit-of-doubt for fellow white males.
But, in my lived experience as a strongly left-leaning person embedded quite deeply in US gun culture, all of those folks would see themselves in the shoes of any man, of any race, in Pretti’s situation.
You might not think that’s any better than a racial bias, because it’s an in-group bias.

The white moderate have always been happy to ignore Black and Brown people being brutalized by the government, that’s why MLK warned about them in his letter from Birmingham Jail. It takes bloodied white faces for them to realize fascism is coming for all of us.
Obviously the opinions of fascists don’t matter. They love to watch “race traitors” die. But it’s not like every pro-gun Republican is a race war Helter Skelter gunfucker that wants to mow down all their neighbors. They’re mostly just ordinary people that believe guns are for protection and this is the exact moment they were told guns were supposed to protect us from.
That means that the historical role white people play in the struggle against white supremacist society is as the bodies on the front line. This is when that white privilege can be used to actually help everyone, instead of just helping white people like it always has.
