Trump has already attempted to leave NATO twice, not counting the time he publicly announced the possibility of going to war against NATO by invading Greenland. That part is not in question.

Xi’s expansionist goals are also not at all in question. The space base they’re setting up in Africa is militaristic in nature, they’re claiming Taiwan belongs to them and have already occupied Hong Kong using military force, and they were backers for Maduro’s regime as a continuation of China’s backing of Hugo Chavez and Cuba during the Cold War.

Difference between NATO and the UN though is despite Trump’s feelings the US has benefited from it by virtue of being their military arm to control Europe.

The UN although the US is a permanent member doesn’t get much if anything that it could get without it.

USA, Russia, and China are all “world superpowers” designation with Veto power in the UN, which they have all used to accomplish various goals such as:

        • USA vetoing a resolution punishing Israel unless they accept a ceasefire without return of hostages, because they supported Israel militarily as a permanent foothold in the region, as other allies in the past have fallen to extremist regimes.

        • China vetoing a resolution that punishes Israel unless they accept a ceasefire with return of hostages, the only one the USA was willing to agree to, because they wanted the USA to look bad and it helped their favored candidate Donald Trump in the election.

Thus showing the US doesn’t have the same sway as they do over NATO.

The US may have a veto authority but so does four other nations, two of whom are rivals to the US and the other two this current administration is alienating

The USA actually has less sway over NATO. NATO is a mutual defence pact, and while it has the power to reject applicants, their VETO power in UN is equivalent and more.

The fact that NATO generals forced Trump to back down over Greenland is a good example.
