While its intentions are good, the proposed bill is riddled with problems and should not be passed

Because half the old fogies in our government have been career politicians since before youtube went live.

We need fucking term limits on the senate. Life time appointment is utter bullshit.

These people don’t know what the fuck they’re doing. If Canada hadn’t been playing 2nd fiddle to the USA their entire career they’d have shit the bed long ago.

Not surprising. Fed NDP’s current roster has very much lost the plot.

Liberals under Trudeau didn’t somehow. Carney is sure to disappoint us regarding this.

Wrote my MP as well as several senators that represent my region.

IMO if they’re going to require age verification for porn they need to do it in a way that doesn’t expose peoples ID data to potential theft, fraud, and impersonation.

Also I feel like an unintended consequence of ID-walling legitimate sites will be teens going to less legitimate sites that lack content moderation.

We really need to vote these old fogies out of our government.

there is no world where ID verification on the internet for porn will ever be used for anything except government and corporate blackmail.

Fully agree. But as long as the conversation is about porn too many people will ignore the identity theft / fraud risks to and side with prudishness (for lack of a better term). Especially leaders who stand to benefit from such mechanisms. We need to make it clear this bill puts Canadians in harms way and it will be deeply unpopular.

Isn’t it interesting that so many different countries with different people in charge are trying the same fascist shit?

It’s because as soon as one country forces it on their citizens the others can say “it can’t be that crazy - Australia and the UK have already done it!”

I don’t care if kids see porn. They’ll live.

It’s a garbage excuse to spy on adults.

Reject this authoritarian bill that put your personal data at higher risk of breaches. Write to your mp demanding that they oppose this awful nonsense and instead focus on educating parents on device parental controls.

As an American, I’m expecting it to pass. I’d recommend y’all fight this hard, but don’t be surprised if they do pass it, regardless.
