I don’t know. I think it’s pretty cool. I used to get downvoted on Reddit for being too liberal. Now, on lemmy I get downvoted because I’m not liberal enough. For some reason though, the latter gives me hope.

No you’ll still get downvoted for being too liberal. Leftists hate liberals almost as much as conservatives do

I don’t think anybody in NA understands the difference between liberal, conservative, social democrat, left-wing, right-wing, socialist, communist, or any of those terms. They just wildly call anybody they don’t agree with one of those terms, because to them, they are just insults like cunt, prick, asshole, idiot, bitch, retard, etc. They have no fucking clue what they actually mean.

I hate American political discourse. It’s a load of Us versus ((them)), black & white, stuff like that, with fanaticism otherwise reserved for football teams (doesn’t matter what they call football & what most of the world calls football), latching onto relatively trivial things & making that part of your identity, and zero room for nuance.

Yeah, that’s my bad. When posting I say liberal just because on Reddit that’s the same thing as leftist. I have to be more specific when discussing it verbally with my friends. So, that’s my bad habit from Reddit.

Imagine if there was no voting at all and we went back to regular forums. Voting just creates echo chambers for any side to be complete fucks and not hear any other opinions besides the one side that’s mostly dominant on the site.

I tend to disagree. Yes, it can cause echo chambers but most of the time if you respectfully discuss things and cite your sources you can disagree and still get upvotes.

Moreover, voting is an extremely effective deterrent against spam, trolling, and advertising.

That is very much not the experience I’ve had here. People rarely cite sources on the internet anymore, and definitely not here.

Voting used to be an extremely effective deterrent against spam, trolling, and advertising. It may now need some revamping to return efficacy.

I wanted to upvote you, but for the sake of your argument I won’t. But yeah I’m not sure up and downvotes are necessary at all
