For this Wednesday Super Slop Night, first up is The Second Tragic Fantozzi (1976), The sequel to White Collor Blues (1975), which we watched last week. As with that film, it is an Italian slapstick comedy constructed as a series of vignettes following a hapless accountant, Fantozzi, who finds himself in one outrageous situation after another, as life throws as many annoyances his way as possible, often focusing on the infuriating minutiae of an office-drone job within a faceless corporation. Reviews compare this to Office Space (1999), The Office (2005), and Dilbert, with some of Franz Kafka’s The Trial thrown in. This is considered a classic among Italians, at least, so let’s check it out. This one is almost as well-regarded as the original.

Next is Willow (1988), an epic fantasy about the eponymous Willow (Warwick David) who is entrusted with a baby girl who is prophecied to defeat an evil sorceress queen. He teams up with a couple of fellow adventurers (one played by Val Kilmer) and goes on a quest to ensure the girls’ safety and the sorceress’ demise. Features a whole lot of practical fantasy effects. Director is Ron Howard, the guy behind such other hits as Apollo 13 (1995), The Grinch (2000), and A Beautiful Mind (2001). Aesthetically, this movie looks pretty cool, so we’ll give it a whirl.
