    Most western countries use extremely warped methods for unemployment statistics to help pretend that it’s an individual’s fault they can’t find good employment. The US frequently reports the U-3 category as ‘unemployment’, when U-6 is closer (and still underreported). The UK unemployment rate excludes people out of work for 4 weeks (and many other exceptions like 0-hour contracts, or outside circumstances obstructing them).

    The true rates are almost always at least twice as high.
