Pretty good improvements for a pretty good game.
I thought so. I am really excited to see what comes next.
I hope they fix redstone and other interactive stuff like doors. They do get stuck and redstone gets reset very often.
That’s not Minetest. That’s just on game running on the Minetest engine. There are tons of games and mods. The Minetest development team doesn’t necessarily make mods.
this will probably get downvoted to hell but im just gonna say it: minetest is just not as good as minecraft (and tbh i don’t think it ever will be)
now to be clear im not happy what microsoft is doing lately with minecraft but i really like the older versions of the game (1.7 era) and those are way better than what minetest offers - also minecraft has a larger player base so there are tons of free/open source mods
Love Minetest. Unfortunately, though, like with many other FOSS projects, it’s hard to find anyone else using it…
Anyone got a server for us lemmings?
From someone out of the loop, what is Minetest?
Open source Minecraft
It’s more than that, it’s a whole engine and launcher combo for (mostly) voxel games, most of which again are Minecraft like, but some are very different. It’s made some huge leaps recently, graphics wise and functionality wise. The promise of the engine is also being fulfilled with more original game projects being developed for it.
Voxel engine with lots of different games
I was gonna ask for a link but the post itself is the link. Gonna try it now. Minecraft-like? So does it have all Minecraft basic stuff? Day/night, basic mods, tools, etc? I mean, can you do what Minecraft 1.7.10 can do (more or less)?
Awaited menu redesign and Minetest will be perfect.
You might be waiting for a few decades. I don’t think UI design is what foss is known for (outside of gnome)
What would be cool is of they could make Minetest support third party launchers.
outside of gnome
For being bad I hope, lol.
Gnome looks great.
It looks alright but the UX is IMO bad.
The UX is probably the best thing about it. Better than anything else by a long shot. I really wish others would catch up and abandon the Windows 95 UX. They’re just so clunky and stuck in the past.
Yeah, gnome seems to be something you either hate or love.
Admittedly I haven’t used Gnome that much (because I don’t like it) but I’m in the former group, I can’t stand the UI and the UX sucks for me. Gnome really feels clunky and like change for the sake of change.
I really like KDE though. I’m also not a fan of MacOS and especially not the way they take out the menus in programs and force it to be OS integrated. I really really hate that. The program should stay inside the program and not invade my OS.
Any mod recommendations for a 5 year old? He’s got a laptop with Debian on it and I’d like to set him up with MineTest, but I’m not sure he can handle the full MineClonia experience.
There are plenty. I would look at Minetest Education along with some of the games.
You also could look at the KDE kid games app
