Old testament God was an asshole
So much so that the so called Gnostic texts and sects, which were apparently fairly popular for around 200 years after Jesus’ death, invented a theology where Yahweh is actually Yealdebaoth, and is actually an evil, malformed demi god, and Jesus is from the realm of a much greater ‘God’.
(Its more like a triune entity that is described kind of as the whole of existence itself that is conscious and thought into being a bunch of other god like entities, theres a whole extremely complex hierachy)
God is a vengeful God.
IIRC, God at one point sends bears to maul 42 unruly teenagers to death because they made fun of a prophet for being bald.

Also, while spending decades apparently going around in circles in Arabia, as opposed to just following near the coast to Canaan… the Israelites complain and ask Moses why he has led them on this grueling trek, seemingly without end.
For this slight, God sends thousands of venomous snakes to kill a bunch of his own people. But its ok because God tells Moses to make a snake effigy and anyone that looks at it will be cured. Even though literally thousands have already died.
