I used to also subscribe to this idea, treating Trump as a wake up call for the left in the US, but clearly this didn’t happen in his first term.
There’s no large-scale support for the left, barely any effective organization, very few left-wing politicians who could actually do anything. If Trump got a second term, the response would likely not be any different.
Don’t get me wrong, I have no expectation that liberals will open their eyes. They responded to the first Trump term by lurching hard to the right to fill the space vacated by the GOP.
I just like reminding them that they were given every warning and opportunity to not go down this road, and they chose to anyway. They shouldn’t expect any sympathy when they’re the ones going under the wheels of the machine they insisted on feeding.
