Everyone can see the horrors happening in Gaza at the hands of Israel. It’s a fucking genocide. And the US is supplying the tools to carry out that genocide. Hard to keep up the charade that you’re “the moralizing force” of the world when nothing could be further from the truth.
The real question is, this being he case, how the fuck is the US still supplying them arms? Why this hill to die on? They’re putting everything on the line…so Israel can slaughter the Palestinian people and settle on their land. Just…why. What is even the benefit for the US. It makes no sense.
Geopolitical power. Israel promises to do the dirty work of the us in the middle east against Iran and other non aligned estates. But in return the us has to backup their expansionist genocidal ethnostate. Without falling in the antisemitic conspiracy theories, there is also a strong zionist lobby that is supported by a large block of us-jewish voters.
I think we have to stop even trying to justify anti-Israel/anti-zionist sentiments as “not antisemitism, we swear!” Because that plays right into the far right Israeli govt’s trap of having to play defense against the baseless antisemitism claim.
Hold a pro-Palestine rally? Antisemite!
Criticize Netanyahu? Antisemite!
Say, “hey, I don’t think genocide is good?” YOURE AN ANTISEMITE!
It’s a no-win argument. Because any pro-Israel/pro-genocide people can just utter that word and the entire conversation is derailed. It’s too effective as a technique.
I was addressing the specific, “a Jewish cabal runs the world” conspiracy theory. Which is an actual antisemitic conspiracy with roots that predate the second world war and the Holocaust.
Oh definitely. I’ve read the origins of totalitarianism. It’s very much a shame. I’m just saying those of us pro-Palestine people are always getting up against the ropes on that one. Maybe I misread your comment
Same as it’s ever been. Israel is the only Middle eastern country the USA considers a reliable ally. No I’m not taking a position whether that is true, but that’s the perception. It’s not the only reason, but it’s a big one.
Is that even a real question?
Optics.
