Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Luis Rubiales has admitted he “made a mistake” by giving Spain star Jennifer Hermoso a surprise kiss on the lips after the 33-year-old received her gold medal following the team’s Women’s World Cup final victory over England on Sunday.

Rubiales has faced widespread criticism for the incident, with politicians and journalists labeling his behavior “unacceptable” and “simply disgusting.”

Also untrue if you think it through. Anything other than pressing charges independently of her public statements is creating an environment where your boss might sexually assault you on live TV and get away with it so long as he has the power to end your career.

I think what the other people are alluding to is the power imbalance here is what takes this from inappropriate to scandalous - that’s my take on it, anyway…

I feel the need to clarify that inappropriate is still an offence and technically this is assault, but the level of pressure to not make a scene is the ‘multiplier’ (on the scale of wrongness - sorry, my metaphors aren’t working today)

Yes and no. Victims aren’t always free to speak their minds. She said she didn’t mind but this is regarded as a preservation tactic due to a sexist environment.

I’m sorry, the quote correct is this. So she’s not saying she didn’t mind, but more like ‘let’s move on’, which is a similar downplaying of what happened. The point was that her opinion isn’t all-important, because she has an interest in keeping her career.

The president and I have a great relationship, his behaviour with all of us has been outstanding and it was a natural gesture of affection and gratitude.

A gesture of friendship and gratitude cannot be gone over so much, we have won a World Cup and we are not going to deviate from what is important.

She says she didn’t like it for once. She’s gay, second. And he even entered the women’s change room after. The dude is clearly a weirdo creep
