18·3 months agoTBH I was confused when I came across the term “sideloading” for the first few times because I thought it was something new. Part of the plan I guess. Damn.

1·4 months agoAh, thanks for the insight! I read the IPS mainly helps with the ghosting but also looks better than all the stock screens. But maybe this is just another instance of people getting stuck on details of minor importance instead of focusing on what matters: Having fun! (And I’m pretty happy gaming on my 3000, so…)
Are there really glass faceplates for the 1000? I checked some weeks ago and only found replacements for 2000/3000 (and whole plastic fronts for the 1000s - which can be modded but that seemed like a really annoying job)…
How’s the screen on your Go in comparison btw.?

81·7 months agoAs soon as I saw that mustache I wanted to get out my knife as well.
I’ll bet there is - some of my friends call it “Leseschlaf” (reading sleep), which seems fitting.
Does this work?
Don’t tell me there’s only one way to find out - my wife would kill me (justifiably so, I guess).
I must admit what I wrote was simplified.
If you take into account that a lot of research grants are financed by tax money though…
Thanks, I will be looking into this!
Sorry, I might have misunderstood - I thought there would be some journals employing that “review to submit” system you mentioned.
It’s happening in Germany as well. Universities are banding together to negotiate better deals with publishers - some subscriptions haven’t been renewed when the publishers weren’t forthcoming. It’s not a solution (that would be the wide establishment of independent, self organized/hosted Open Access journals - using Open Journal Systems for example) but it’s a start.
Oh, could you share some links?
Don’t forget the university libraries. Yup, researchers are paid by the university, those researchers pay the publishers to place their articles, the peer reviewers are also paid by the university. And then the university has to shell out money to the publishers, so the articles can be accessed.
Came here to post this. It’s so evil, it even has ebooks meant for entertainment.
Never visit downmagaz either!
I use Book Reader (it’s on F-Droid) for my phone, which works well enough… don’t know how it performs on a tablet or if it has the features you’re looking for.
I would wholeheartedly recommend a dedicated e-reader with E-Ink display for more ‘serious’ reading (I have a Tolino for the evenings/bed. Depending on where you are located you could also look into PocketBooks or Kobos… just make sure they’re not chaining you to a closed ecosystem like Kindles).

138·2 years agoSounds to me like you were just looking for an excuse to do something you’re not totally convinced is the right thing… Your comment also reads way more aggressive than it would have had to be, which makes me think that vegan got to you more than you’d like. But that’s just me. And I’m in permanent conflict myself for trying to eat vegan myself and raising two kids (as predominately vegetarian omnivores - if that makes any sense.)
