  • Fruits Basket is amazing and I hope you enjoy it. However, don’t expect it to scratch the harem itch. It is more of a love triangle, and I feel like romance isn’t much of a focus for many episodes either when the story tends to focus on things like supernatural elements or family trauma instead. I absolutely love Fruits Basket though.

As a side note, I remembered that you mentioned Misuzu from Tomo-chan in your post last week. Well, prepare yourself for Saki Hanajima, the obvious character inspiration for Misuzu. I don’t think the ways that the male characters interact with her are as annoying though.

  • I haven’t watched Quintessential Quintuplets, but I have read the manga. Overall the story has its ups and downs but I ended up generally liking it by the end. If you are looking for an alternative that is perhaps a bit less dramatic and doesn’t include the familial angle, you could try Bokuben (another series where I read the manga instead of watching the anime). I really liked how that series ended (and the manga does something a bit unique with the ending I really enjoyed).

  • Still trying to hang on to as many series as I can find time for this season.

    • Apocalypse Hotel - This show has been incredibly good. I can’t recommend this series enough if you haven’t checked it out yet.
    • Ninja and Assassin - Like Apocalypse Hotel, this show has been incredible, but in a very, very different way. This show is probably one of the darkest comedies I have ever seen. Even having read the manga, Shaft really makes you feel the darkness.
    • Evil Lord Isekai - This continues to be dumb fun. Not much happened this past episode though.
    • Too-Perfect Saint - Great episode this past week with some big plot reveals. Looking forward to more.
    • Rock is a Lady’s Modesty - A bit of a setup episode this past week, but Battle of the Bands is starting up next week, so I am looking forward to that.

  • So, as a moderator for !manga@ani.social, I have been trying to keep tabs on how this has been developing over on reddit (especially /r/manga).

I believe that if a publisher were to request content or posts to be removed, it would most likely be directed to the instance admin. In my community’s case, that would be @hitagi@ani.social. It would then be up to them whether to or how to remove the content. If it isn’t a formal DMCA or if they are in a jurisdiction not bound by the DMCA, then they could always choose not to take action. If they did decide to remove the content, then the next decision facing them would be how to remove it.

One option would be to “remove” it (no different than a community moderator removing things like spam). This action would federate out to other lemmy servers and remove it there as well. The other option that is available to instance admins is to “purge” it. This removes the content from the local server, but does not federate that removal out to other instances. So, the offending content would still be available to the rest of the fediverse since it was federated out and the publisher would have to go play whack-a-mole with every instance out there. The purge option would definitely be the malicious compliance route.

  • So, like I mentioned in the post, we don’t really know specifics about this adaptation yet. But, based on the visual and what the creator, Masamune Shirow, is quoted as saying in the ANN article, I am guessing this is a new adaptation rather than a continuation of a previous iteration of GITS.

I have heard from manga readers that the series can be pretty silly and humorous compared to how GITS is portrayed in anime. With Science SARU and the key animator for Dan Da Dan heading up this project, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this lean closer to the manga in tone and style.

  • Yeah…this is it. What a great first episode. Such great vibes, great art, interesting characters (even if most of them can’t speak), and an interesting mystery hook bubbling under the surface. I was already hooked just by the cold open and how it was spliced together between broadcasts of the extinction of humanity and the cheerful hotel commercial.

I am super on board with this series.
