From what I’ve heard, openSUSE Tumbleweed is the most stable rolling release distribution around. It automatically checks packages, before releasing them. As for desktop environments, Xfce is a great one, if you add some addons (e.g., Whisker menu).

Keep in mind that this happens in many (specially “romance”) languages, because such gender is grammatical, not literal (unlike in English, where he and she are very much so). For example, in Portuguese (my native language), I can refer to a person as a “pessoa” (“feminine” word gender) — and I can use this to make a grammatically correct, gender-neutral sentence: Ela (essa pessoa) parece bastante simpática. (That person seems quite nice.)

It does not assume gender, as previously mentioned. Since English does not follow the same rules (he/him and she/her refer to actual gender), you can optionally avoid using they/them by using that person’s name (or pseudononym): “thatonecoder has some cool projects, although they (the projects) seem to have some flaws. That user seems to be nice, so I might point out some of those issues, in a respectful manner!” (yes, oddly specific example, but I am not very creative, and this gave some ways to refer to a specific person without either using they/them, he/him, or she/her.

Prohibition never works; people will always find other bad — maybe even worse — things to do. The human pressure to have social interactions may lead to creating terrible IRL friendships, ones that can be much more dangerous.

Instead, I would strongly advise for honest, mature conversations about the risks that social media comes along with. This can lead to a highly positive impact, especially if you teach how to observe interactions between people through social media, even if not interacting, yourself.

1: The Supreme Court is dominated by Republican Justices, which, if you take Trump’s stance about judges being corrupt and bla bla bla, that also applies for his judges - and Trump never accepted the election loss, so the abortion right removal technically happened in his presidency.

2: I never did imply that abortion has anything to do with DOGE, I separated those two things with something called a comma (which you haven’t used at all - oh, that explains it!). Medicare and Medicaid are, however, likely going to be cut off to save those juicy $1T to then give more money to the wealthy.

3: The rights being removed are not all by DOGE, but all are tied to the Trump administration, which does include DOGE.

This is officially rambling territory, but did you that if 99.99% of Elon Musk’s money (assuming he has between 300 and 400 billion dollars) was evenly split between every US citizen, everyone in the US would get 1000+ dollars, and Elon Musk would still have 30-40 million?

Even if he just lost 99.8% of his money, he’d have an enormous amount of wealth ($800M), and the US citizens would still get a lot of money? Do that but 6 times (to count for every billionaire, making each keep $800M), and uni-statians would get $5K each!

Not that bad - the start menu opens in about 2 seconds, but some apps can take much longer (highly depends, but up to 6-10 seconds). I can easily work with a minimal, Windows 9x layout, if that means I will get a significant performance boost.

Yeah, it does feel like Windows XP, but that’s also the beauty of it - I can customize it using the graphical editors, since the UI is not confusing, just outdated.

I can tinker a bit of the settings, but not too much. I also have another laptop that has half the specs (but a better CPU, for some reason) that I might use as a lab rat.

I think because: 1: I have a tiny bit of technical experience, although none with a Linux system. That’s enough to use something more advanced 2: Cinnamon is basically on par with KDE, in terms of performance, which is not good at all, since my laptop’s specifications are particularly sub-par.

Even it they (WhatsApp) still provide reliable E2EE, they have lots of metadata that is not encrypted, and that they actively share with their “advertising partners”.
