In many places doorknobs are being phased out of codes precisely because they aren’t accessible like a lever style is.

maybe, just maybe if we didn’t move the same settings 1-2 layers deeper behind some UI bullshit we wouldn’t have to look for it.
This trend pisses me off so much. Companies need to learn that for settings I’m likely to have to change they need to minimize the number of actions to change it. But people in all these companies find the need to reorganize things to make it seem like they are accomplishing something.
Until I got to the specific shit I thought this was going to end with a punchline about Canada geese.
This has gotten so bad in my city since covid times. I’m constantly having to go around people stopped in the middle of the walking path. Just yesterday I was walking and these two people exactly stopped where the sidewalk narrowed for a bus stop and were blocking 3/4 of the area to walk because of it. They literally could have stepped 2 steps over and been completely out of the way beside the bus stop shelter.
10+ years experience in product design here. There is nothing about a “simple” product that is cheap or easy. Say you hire a design engineering firm to design it, who is going to make the parts? Have you ever worked with manufacturing in Asia? Who is going to assemble it? Who deals with the inevitable issues?
Then you have to think about selling it. What certifications do you have to get?
That is just hardware, now repeat many of these same questions for firmware and app development.
Now you have a product, what are the customers and who do you need to hire to market and sell to them? Assuming someone is interested in purchasing it how much money do you have to pay for all the product up front and warehouse it?
There is a damn good reason why so many Kickstarter projects never actually ship. Hardware is hard even if you know what you are doing.
Spotify Connect is a feature I use extensively that nobody else even comes close to doing as well (even though the Spotify implementation leaves much to be desired). Why does nobody else support controlling the player on my PC from another computer?
Its amazing how quickly these assholes have dropped any sort of facade they were keeping up towards their public image. At best they are doing whatever they think will get them the most money, more realistically they actually support this regressive bullshit. As a non-American I am so pissed at what a good portion of that country has voted for and those that stayed home instead of preventing this.
“Everything” for searching
I remember that Ice soap was also around this time, so of course reddit took it too far and combined them.
I use mold for everything, but don’t really bat an eye at using mould for the tool that is used to make parts which I see pretty often through my work.
As much as I think the cybertruck is a stupid vehicle and agree that teslas are built like shit, from what I understand this isn’t an atypical amount of recalls for a new vehicle platform.
Without even paying much attention the two I know of, the gas pedal and the finger slicer are unacceptable however.
Good to see you are out of your 5 year coma…
I was thinking about this recently after a frustrating trip to a brick and mortar store that was missing the specific item I wanted to purchase which should have been easily available.
Has it always been this bad and we just accepted it until Amazon came around and carried most everything, or have stores significantly reduced the inventory they carry to the point where they have become practically useless except as a showroom? It extends to things I only want to purchase in store. Why do clothing and shoe stores never have my size in stock of the item I want? Clothing has become so poor in quality (even expensive stuff) and I’m hard enough to fit that unless it is an item I already have and need to replace I only want to buy stuff I can try on first.
As much as I’d like to avoid Amazon, the lack of inventory at other retailers really pushes me towards them. Why would I pay more for slow shipping from the East coast because the local store doesn’t carry anything when Amazon delivers in 1-2 days for free?
I’ve also been really struggling recently when trying to buy items that are less than $15. Amazon often charges double what it should cost for the items, but at the same time, local stores don’t carry what I’m looking for. I can find it for the right price online, but then the shipping cost makes it more expensive than Amazon.
Was transiting through the Iceland airport once and had a random thought about how I was quite far from anyone I know there. No sooner do I finish the thought I look about 20m in front of me and an old university classmate of mine is walking towards me.
Samsung M540 “Slyde” phone - The software was incredibly buggy including things like just randomly typing the wrong letter. Randomly bad tech is so much more irritating than tech you know is bad.
Google Nexus 7 (2012) - The tablet had defective chips that slowed down over time. Turned into a horrible slow piece of shit over time.
When answering “Are you going to leave?” or similar questions don’t say yes or no. Say you are always interested in whatever options are best for your career. If the business can continue to provide the best option then there is no reason for you to leave.
Most every mall in Asian countries I’ve visited has this system already. This may just be a North America being cheap problem.
Most image sensors are not square, they are 4:3 or 16:9. Square sensors are typically used for more specialty applications.
I agree it could be useful on a phone to have 1:1 sensors, but I would still support the direct recording to standard video resolutions and aspect ratios as otherwise encoder limitations will affect what video you can shoot.
Right now? I’m a 6’2" pasty white guy in Asia (or Casper per my favourite overheard discussion).
I fucking hate these new vehicles with the paint that has no sparkle to it, especially the horrible grey one. So called Putty ass-whips
