You bring up an interesting issue with equalization payments. California would be a “Have” province and hefty transfer payments would probably be expected.

But mostly, I’m just concerned that California would immediately become the dominant political entity in Confederation. Right now, the centre of the world is basically Toronto. Suddenly, the financial, technological, and industrial centre of Canada would all be in California. I can’t see that going super well. People and businesses would migrate en masse. It could lead to an impoverishment of other Canadian provinces as the capital all moves to California.

Population, GDP, culture… Canada would be eaten alive by California. They wouldn’t change. We would.

  • Dude kicks a bunch of rocks down a hill and complains that the avalanche isn’t going the way he wanted? Fuck him. He gets the metaphorical guillotine with the rest. Or maybe the literal one, if the avalanche goes hard enough.

That’s the trouble with revolution, you can’t predict the outcome. The fundamental flaw of accelerationism. Your side might come out on top, but it might not. Big ole reset button drenches everyone in blood.

  • I was a little excited about the potential of the CT, too. The idea of a cheap outer shell folded from cheap sheet steel, something that can be welded, beaten, and easily repaired was a good concept, to my mind. On top of a mass produced cheap chassis with a beefy battery for worksites and a reasonable amount of storage, it could have been great. I don’t even mind the look of it.

I sold my Tesla stock last year at the 400 mark. Still had to keep 100 shares to back a call option.
