  • I drive an Ioniq 6 as well and really like it. I got it as a one year old car with the big battery and highest interior line for 37k €. I like the user interface, it is one of the most efficient cars (I drive it at ~13.5 kWh/100km), can tow trailers, charges really fast, has a good overall range, supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay etc.

Downsides: It has an issue with an internal part called ICCU that breaks quite often (in forums people often experienced a failure after ~30000 km). Same issue with Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. It’s covered by the warranty of course but still can be annoying.

The keyless system is apparantly not really secure and can be hacked easier than in other cars. Where I live (Germany) at least, this doesn’t lead to higher theft cases compared to other brands, so for me that’s not too bad.

PS: I do not charge at hone but exclusively at public stations. Charging at home for sure makes it cheaper and more convenient but still I wouldn’t want want to go back to ICE.

  • A friend of mine works as a chef in a big restaurant that serves mainly tourists that are often drunk, rude and sometimes aggressive. He works in a hot, loud and greasy athmosphere, has to stand all day, work on weekends, public holidays, often until late in the evening. I work in a clean and comfortable office or even from home, am pretty flexible with my working hours, have more vacation days and still make significantly more money than him. And he’s already getting way above minimum wage. There are so many people in Germany who aren’t even close to what he makes and who work under conditions even worse than that, like seasonal workers for fruit picking, construction workers, care workers etc.

I think also IT workers should stand up for themselves and demand improvements where things are going in a wrong direction. Still I’d say us IT folks (with probably very few exceptions) shouldn’t be the ones complaining in the front row.

  • Regarding your specific example, there pretty good reasons not to use AI if there’s an adequate alternative, so I can absolutely understand people arguing against that.

AI is resource intensive and thus bad for the environment. Results usually aren’t deterministic, so the behavior is no longer reproducible. If there is a defined algorithm to solve the issue in a correct way, AI will be less accurate. If you use cloud services, you may run into privacy issues.

Not saying there aren’t any use cases for LLMs or other forms of AI. But just applying it everywhere 'cause it’s fancy, is not a good idea.

In general, I appreciate if people question my work or come up with proposals for improvement as long as it’s polite and the person is at least qualified to some degree. However, that does not mean that I change my mind immediately and follow their advice.
