For 9 disks I would need to print a bigger case, but this one suits me well for now 😉

Daily backup to backblaze b2 and also to local storage with kopia. Its been running for a year I think, no issues at all. I didnt need a real backup yet, just did some restore tests so far
If OP cant use more than one disk at once, how can they benefit from mergerfs?
In my country pi4 8GB ram with PSU 130€ and then you need SD card and/or SSD
Adding my data as well:
My server is diy desktop pc - mbo MSI Z270-A PRO with celeron G3930 and 16GB RAM, 3x SSD on 550W PSU, idles at 23W. After adding another 3.5" HDD consuption went up to 34W. 34W in Ctoatia is around 34€ a year.
Some SFF PCs are at 10-15W. SBCs like rpi should be below 10 W, but dont think you can get anything new for 80€
Im not afraid of command line, but also dont feel like linux guy yet. The thing is that installing and using some distros are way easier than windows. I installed POP OS recently and cant believe how smooth and easy it was. Average windows users might not need command line at all on distro like that
Oh I love this one. How are gateron switches compared to MX? I had shitty romer g on logitech and replaced it with another one with MX and its day and night difference
I went for wireguard VPN instead of exposing services. Its much more safe afaik, but you have to configure each device you want to give access (aka scanning QR code). You also dont need to buy a domain for that. Exposed services would be easier to use, especially if you want to use it on many devices
Thx for sharing, looks awesome
Im using npm with letsenrypt for local network only, but couldnt find a way to use pihole gui without /admin. So I have bookmarked pihole.domain/admin
Thx for sharing!
OP be careful nobug warned you that your home IP can maybe leak if something happens like VPN disconnect or server crapping out. Btw if you are using torrents you are not only downloading, you are also uploading and sharing the content.
I checked the guide, and its a shame you didnt make it before I was building my arr setup. Thx for sharing
I believe you can just set vpn in qbittorrent, but Im not sure is it acting like real kill-switch or you are risking your home IP leak. So not recommended probably. If you go recommended docker way, you can do it easily with gluetun. There must be many other options out there, but be careful, not all of them are acting like a real kill switch.
Anyway, tell your friend its not hard to start with docker, you need portainer and youtube 😜
I was also struggling a bit with that, but didnt need a script or chron job. Maybe Im missing something, but I used this
Same awesomenest here
Im not writing books, but check out bookstack
Is it worth to replace HDD with SSD? It is and it was for last 10 years if you can afford it. Nowdays you pay 25 €/tb for HDD and 50+ €/tb for SSD. Higher capacity is getting cheaper on HDD, but its getting much more expensive on SSD. Since you are fine with 1TB I would get SSD for sure. If you need storage just for media files or backup then get huge HDD instead.
I had samsung evo failure. Now I just buy the cheapest one. My OCZ vertex 3 120gb is still working fine, same with all cheap patriot p200 and simmilar. Warranty is your friend and you just need luck after that. Well backup all important data no matter is it on HDD or SSD
I should add more ram soon because Im running 30 services on 8GB atm and looks like Im about to hit the wall. Services I run atm are pihole, nextcloud, wireguard server, arr stack, jellyfin, homeassistant and more.
One of the first services on my server was nextcloud in docker container from lsio. Never had problems so there was no need to try AIO, but so many people recommend that, it will be my next setup if this one fails me
