Leftists decided punishing Democrats was more important than the rights of marginalized people living in the US, so now we have Trump. Thanks leftists. You’re the reason we will have concentration camps again.

  • I mean it wouldn’t be a problem if people didn’t get angry about minorities having rights.

The reason the rich are pushing right-wing politics is that they know socially conservative people are ready to give the wealthy whatever they want so long as they can tread on the humanity of minorities. So a large part of the problem is there truly are a lot of deplorable people who have some truly abhorrent views and the rich are taking advantage of that. Is the rich taking advantage a problem? Sure, but the bigger problem is that these people with these views exist in the first place and are easily manipulated.

If the rich could get tax cuts from pushing for social rights for minorities they would do that instead, but social liberals are less gullible than the conservatives.

  • Far right authoritarianism is spreading across the world. I’m not sure any country is safe from it. Sure right now it sucks because we are in the middle of it but this likely won’t last forever. There will be a pendulum swing.

I’m a computer engineer and have a good income and it’s still not easy for me to simply up and switch countries even if I want to.

Something I’ve been trying to do lately is trying to appreciate what I do have in life and what is good. I can go outside and be surrounded by trees in my neighborhood. I can work on my art in my free time. I like the state I’m in since it’s relatively liberal. I try to appreciate my coffee in the morning. The birds in my backyard. The fluffiness of my cat. Focusing on the positives here and now and being present in my present.

And I’m doing that not to shame myself for having it better than others. I’m doing it literally as a survival technique. It’s very easy right now to focus on everything wrong, and where I want to be in the future but can’t get to right now. But if I keep obsessing over things I cannot change, I will go crazy.

Try to find things you can appreciate about your life as it is now and slow down and really take the time to experience and appreciate those things.

  • I used to have one as my primary work device for a few years. Honestly, it was surprisingly usable once you find online analogs for all typical things you do on a computer.

The biggest issue is you’d be using a free online service for some application, and then they start charging per month or the company goes under and you lose your work, so you have to keep finding new services and exporting your work to a common format that won’t disappear to a central file system like Drive diligently.

  • I’d say it’s more butterfly effect than Rube Goldberg. A Rube Goldberg would be engineered with the intent and goal of shooting and killing you. Anyone who has made one can attest to the time and effort and focus needed to get it to accomplish its goal (which in this case is killing you).

Gates’ actions are not intended to kill you. Just to make himself rich. You are just collateral damage.

I mean it’s still about as moral as burning down the Amazon rainforest to make some money, but Bill Gates isn’t setting out with the goal to murder you specifically. Unless you slept with his wife or something.
