Climate@slrpnk.net•How to build homes that can survive extreme heat2·24 days agoSprawl can screw this up though - in Arizona, adobe used to be great. But now in Phoenix the large amounts of concrete mean the desert doesn’t cool off at night, and so you don’t get any time to release.
Basically people either shouldn’t live in the desert, shouldn’t pour large amounts of concrete, or need to unify cooling a la Arcosanti.
You spend lots of time playing with little boys, then?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?
1·2 months agoYeah - now, the downsides of this are well covered, especially by Corey Doctrow, in that once the users are locked into the platform, Amazon decreases the actual benefits - and then starts chisling the sellers as well.
But to fix that, you do need to do something besides just scold the customers.

Starbucks regular coffee is drip, not espresso.
No. And it’s a crime against coffee and ecology.
Espresso takes more coffee per serving than American drip, so comparing dry is going to he misleading.
Yup. That said, espresso also uses more coffee per amount of liquid, and the amount of caffeine is basically a function of the amount of coffee and how long it’s in contact with the water.
Yeah, people forget the point of capitalism isn’t to satisfy the consumer. It’s to maximize returns to the current owners.
If they can do that with good products, they will. If they can make more money with a shitty product, the that’s what’s on the menu
Used to work there, that’s exactly right. Same reason McDonald’s makes their burgers so well done. What chains sell isn’t quality, but consistency, and it’s easier to produce a consistent overcooked food product

Yeah, while the EU as a whole is awful about migration, Spain is one of the least awful.
It’s also why Spain is growing - it takes in immigrants from Africa and Latin America.
