And this isn’t even lemmy.world, it’s lemmy.ca.
So (drum roll) it’s even weirder than you thought! 🤣
Just a Southern Saskatchewan retiree looking for a place to keep up with stuff.

And the community name gets a new meaning 😛
Ingesting gasoline is deadly in far smaller doses due to something called hydrocarbon pneumonia. My dad very nearly died as a result of having a tiny amount get past his throat while siphoning gas to a small engine’s tank.
If you must siphon gas, go buy a cheap “pump siphon” from Canadian Tire.

I worked with a guy in the 1990s who smoked like a chimney and was a serious cyclist. He did the “Ride across Saskatchewan” a few times, placing quite well while smoking a pack of cigarettes along the way. Madness and he said half the fun was how much it pissed everyone off to get passed by someone sucking on a cigarette.
Tell me again why it’s okay to publish this tripe. It’s no wonder that so many women think men are pigs.
Also the “public right-of-way” in this country is incredible.
I wish we had that in Canada. We weren’t too badly off with plenty of Crown land and a few “right of access” to Crown lands regulations, but that is rapidly changing, at least in Saskatchewan.
Trespass laws are being changed to make it more difficult to exercise Treaty rights. Crown lands are being sold off. Some Crown lands are being sold in patterns that leave other Crown lands inaccessible.
My favourite workspace was when I was just stuffed under a stairwell. There were very few interruptions because the only way to talk to me was to stand in the hallway blocking traffic.
I showed up, got my work done, dicked around with research projects, wandered the halls talking to people about the kinds of issues they were having and offering ad-hoc training, went home. It was more like a hobby than work.
According to the article, the law is about spreading blasphemy. It doesn’t say whether committing blasphemy is sufficient on its own, so the number of followers may have been instrumental in the charging, conviction, or sentencing.
It’s also possible that it was merely showing that being famous is no protection.
Not your usual teaser, but still a teaser. “Look at all this techno-marketing. It shouldn’t take more than a couple of weeks. By then we’ll have some actual code to look at and toys to play with.”
In fairness, they are providing what looks like a decent overview of their underlying system (Rama) and how they used it to create their mastodon instance.
But I guess it worked :) I bookmarked their page and will check in from time to time. Maybe their toy (prototyping) system will be enough to run a personal instance…
Sort of. I think of the Unix philosophy as being like Lego. Here’s a box of goodies, go crazy. Even Ikea still requires user assembly.
Most end users just can’t do much with the first and often even get tripped up by the second. What we need is something in between that a programmer can use to quickly throw something together to user requirements.
Actually, that’s much like what I was doing with Microsoft Access and Visual Basic decades ago. I probably would never have survived in an actual software development shop, but I was kept very busy by a bunch of small businesses that loved the quick turnaround and manageable costs.
They could prohibit him from being the registered owner of a motor vehicle. That way whoever is the registered owner can be charged for letting an unlicensed driver take the wheel. That should also come with the threat of loss of ownership privileges.
