jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are you doing to help Lemmy thrive?English7·2 years agoI try to post a picture of my cats every day or two. It’s not much, but I get a fair amount of engagement on some of them. Aside from that I scroll daily and comment and upvote when something catches my eye. Haven’t been back to Reddit since Apollo died so this is my only social media and I really want too see it grow.
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjatoTechNews@radiation.party•[HN] YouTube's crackdown on ad blockers intensifiesEnglish2·2 years agoDoes yours actually block YouTube ads? I followed instructions and set my pi-hole up a few years ago and it works pretty well on most things but does not block YouTube ads. I was told this was because YouTube hosts the ads on the same IP address as the videos and therefore the pi-hole can’t tell the difference? However, I’ve been using smart tube on my Nvidia shield tv box and that blocks the ads. Do I just need to update my block list on the pi-hole?
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato News@lemmy.world•YouTube prankster says he had no idea he was scaring man who shot himEnglish474·2 years agoWhy do I feel more sympathy for the shooter then? Let me explain myself. I don’t condone his actions, but here’s the thing… You have no idea what a stranger is going through in their life. No idea what trauma lies in their past. Going up to strangers and trying to provoke them could yield wildly different responses from person to person, and in the world we live in that could easily involve anger. Some people are barely holding it together and all they need is a jarring incident like this to make them snap. The shooter didn’t provoke this situation. Yes he reacted poorly, but the entire thing would have been avoided if the brain dead YouTuber wasn’t going around trying to elicit a response for clicks.
This reminds me of an article I just saw. Uber is partnering with taxi companies in LA to provide rides. Congratulations, you re-invented something that already exists. Lol
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato Technology@lemmy.world•I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app.English7·2 years agoJust a thought, but have you tried requesting the desktop site from your mobile browser? I’ve had luck with a few websites that have missing features on their mobile pages.
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato [Outdated, please look at pinned post] Casual Conversation@lemmy.world•Tell me about someone really interesting that you know.2·2 years agoWhoa! That is very interesting. I’ve got so many questions. How old are they? Are they very wealthy? Large house/property? Age range of the kids? I’m assuming this is over an extended period, not all at the same time, but either way that takes dedication.
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato News@lemmy.world•Russell Brand Dropped by Agent After Rape and Sexual Assault AccusationsEnglish61·2 years agoYou misspelled chode. Lol
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How to sleep after wisdom teeth extractionEnglish61·2 years agoI was gonna say, ever heard of “dry socket”? Honestly though, when I had my wisdom teeth pulled I was still smoking cigarettes and I’d just put wet gauze in the back over the holes and do it anyway. I got lucky I guess and got away with it.
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Where and when did you start your fediverse journey?English2·2 years agoI stopped using Reddit when Apollo stopped working. I joined Lemmy.world on July 4th and moved to my current instance about a month after due to .world being down a lot. I’m happy to be here and watch Lemmy grow and improve.
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato News@lemmy.world•Fifa suspends Luis Rubiales from all football-related activity over Hermoso kiss23·2 years agoThey are threatening to sue her for lying and defamation? Wtf? People saw the kiss and everything I’ve read about the situation sounds like all she did was say that she never consented to it. SFA can get fucked.
The closest I could find is kill. Which starts with a ‘k’ sound but begins with the letter ‘k’.
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has anyone made a sugar baby profile asking for money for school without having to bang in return?English2·2 years agoIt’s a GREAT THING! lol (I actually have no idea)
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think millennials who grew up with the early Internet and home computers will be as bad with future technology as boomers are with current technology?English8·2 years agoYeah we may shy away from it, but it’s not because we can’t figure out HOW to use it.
jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.ninjatoTechNews@radiation.party•[VERGE] Twitch will let streamers ban users from watching their streamsEnglish1·2 years agoHonestly, I have no idea. I only ever really use twitch to watch Kitboga, and the vibe there is usually pretty chill so I’ve never thought about how streamers have to deal with harassment.
I also use Flipboard. I setup a pi-hole on my home network about 2 years ago and it blocks pretty much all the ads from Flipboard. It’s great when I’m at home, but when I’m anywhere else the ads come through. I’m usually browsing from home so this solution works for me.
I mostly agree but I would argue that spirituality comes from within, while religion comes from external sources. Religion is just other people’s packaged version of spirituality/faith.
