Not being able to participate anywhere on Lemmy merely because my home instance was down didn’t feed very federated :(

Is there anything I can do to guard against that issue in the future? Is there a way to mirror an account between two instances or something?

Anyway, big props to the slrpnk admins for getting the instance back online quicker than expected. Your hard work is definitely not unappreciated or unnoticed.

  • I’m a middle-aged cyclist (though I got into it around 20) who eschews lycra. I hate the look, the fit, and the feel. I bike in vans slip-on, running shorts, and t-shirts. At most I’ll wear chamois under the shorts. No clips for me either, flats with the peg screws forever. 90% road cyclist btw, very little mountain biking. Oh and no fitness tracker / GPS as of a few years ago. I just need as little friction as possible between being not on the bike and being on the bike. For me it translates to more fun and many more miles. These days some would call my style “xbiking”.

  • I’m a daily cyclist and I think I’d be terrified to bike through a full roundabout. They’re absolutely marvelous designs for throughput that doesn’t require complex signal automation, but the flip side of that is they’re pretty hostile if you’re not a motor vehicle. Any truly good roundabout design should include pedestrian and cycle paths along the periphery that have priority when crossing the circles entrances.

  • No, anarcho capitalist is more accurate. Libertarian is strictly synonymous with anarcho capitalists only in the USA, and only since the 1950s when Murray Rothbard colonized it’s actual definition, a synonym for anarchist communism. The word was first coined by French socialist newspapers during a period when writing about “anarchism” explicitly in print was banned, and merely using a different term got around the law.

I’m a libertarian socialist, and that shouldn’t be an edgy thing to say just because some mentally stunted hubristic capitalists want to believe they don’t require the violence of the state to enforce private property.
