Like a lot of people, I work in AI, and very specifically the field of making it better. I’m proud of the work that I do, and I feel that I’m working towards a better future. Really, truly, deeply, from the bottom of my heart, I want to believe that everyone else is working towards that as well.

I’ve never used Git Butler, but looking at their site it looks like a whole UI layer on top of git.

Topgit is just a small set of shell scripts that implement the various tg commands for managing your patch branches.

It’s based around the idea of patch queues, but since it’s using git branches you can have a tree of patch branches instead of just a linear patch queue.

It adds some simple commands that manage all of the base and head refs of the branches and automatically propagates merges up the tree when you modify a branch lower down. It has been around for quite a while so it’s fairly stable by now.

Most importantly, it doesn’t do any history rewriting, so you keep the full commit history of your branches while making it easy for other contributors to make commits to the same set of feature branches concurrently.

We only have 5 or so decades worth of solutions to this problem. It’s probably one of the first problems to be solved for networked computers.

Innovation and new solutions are fine, but the readme for this project doesn’t mention a single other file transfer program as a comparison, which signals that they didn’t even think about existing solutions and whether they were reinventing the wheel.

A better question is “can we understand how some people believe that LLMs reason?”

It’s not funny unless someone has put the effort in to photoshop.
