cosmicrookie@lemmy.worldto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•The Atlantic's chilling secret: A century of data reveals ocean current collapse | Research confirms weakening circulation drives South Greenland anomaly14·19 days agoThis will not only affect weather in Europe. AMOC also is crucial for cooling down the temperature in africa and causing rain in south America, to support rainforest. If it collapses, it will have very big implications
The interesting thing is that scientists are looking into tipping points for this colaps. It is not the first time that this is happening and it got back to functioning again. There is a point though where you can press it so much that it won’t be able to return back from a collapse.

Its not because Microsoft is getting too expensive. Its because Denmark wants to break free from big tech and dependency or other (big) countries
cosmicrookie@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Browsers are complicit in browser fingerprinting.1·1 month agoMaybe
I believe that one should leave those platforms for personal reasons. Not as a statement to those companies.
I left because I don’t like being tracked or being forced to accept being tracked. I did not leave because I wanted them to stop tracking their users or to show them that i don’t like them doing it.
Imo these companies won’t change the way they operate and even if they did, I wouldn’t trust them to have done so. They will always find loopholes and workarounds to get to what and where they want.
cosmicrookie@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Browsers are complicit in browser fingerprinting.5·1 month agoI hope so - it doesn’t seem to work with platforms like facebook, twitter, reddit. We have had massive exodus from those too, but they keep growing and making money. People don’t value privacy, if it gets in the way of convenience, socializing and entertainment
With some workplaces using Facebook messenger even, to plan shifts, you practically get forced to have accounts places where you wouldn’t
cosmicrookie@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Browsers are complicit in browser fingerprinting.98·1 month agoBasically, most of the internet won’t work right, if you don’t allow the browsers to track you. I have had a very strict Firefox setting and kept having to create exception to every site I visited just get in.
You can boycot the sites but in the end, you’ll be missing out on everything really

oh ok - i thought it was like fedicerce where instances shared content, and therefore could compete with Youtube. If they are simply mini-youtubes, the tech could be awesome, but if the content is spilt across multiple groups, i find it hard to understand how it really can compete against youtube.
I just did a test to confirm. I tried a search on peertube.tv and one on peertube.wtf but even the interfaces are different so it is hard to figure out what and where you’re searching

I wouldn’t even consider that rude on either side of the call really - just business

Time wise, the moon landing is located roughly in the middle between the first image, and now. It happened almost 60 years ago (59).
We have since invented the internet, and a lot of great ways to waste our time
