Plex will soon charge you even more to stream your own media
Makes it sound like Plex is keeping your data (which let’s face it, is pirated anyway) behind a paywall, when in reality they are charging for the relay. It’s disingenuous to phrase it like that.
Now, I agree Plex is enshittifing, but let’s at least be fair in calling out the good and bad.

NGL, those look like extremely well made boots. I’m sure they’ll last you a very very very long time.

To be fair to Rafael (which, of course, makes me vomit a little) he made this statement last time too.
He is on the wrong side of literally everything else and should be fired (from a cannon, into the sun), but credit where due, he’s constant on this point.

There’s an argument to be made that you might even save some money by not being tempted to buy shit at the gas station, which a lot of people do.
Not sure that argument holds water because we always hear about the shopping and/or dining that can be done while charging.

I get that the author is being snarky, but on the whole I don’t necessarily disagree with the author of the piece he’s critical of, that much of the design of all new cars– not just EVs– can be user hostile. There’s a lot of design choices present that seem to be different for different sake. “Fixing” problems that didn’t need fixing.
The complaint about changing being locked behind apps is also extremely valid.
We’re all EV fans here, but let’s not waive away valid criticism.
I always loved the Conan O’Brien “In the year 2000” bit, and it got even funnier after it actually was 2000.
Fair enough. My experience has been that the people you describe are most often dogmatically anti-Apple to begin with, and likely won’t care/listen.
I’m a Mac user and agree and know that that’s the case. But you’re taking this too seriously. It a joke that a little bit makes fun of Mac but a lot makes fun of windows.
I was just referring to an old internet joke that was in the same vein as this post.
My grandfather didn’t die in Korea so that people could fight online like this.

My dad’s brother Thomas was the same way.

Apple isn’t marketing Hide My Address that way, and if you think they are you deserve what’s coming you.
The article is written with bias, and does not explicitly say Apple turned over the name without being compelled by a warrant. If there was a warrant, this is a non-story; if there wasn’t, I’m not thrilled about it but there are bigger fish to fry.
im way smarter than everyone else
Based on your punctuation and grammar, doubt

I was permanently banned on reddit for commenting under this exact story that I think Islamic terrorists maybe have a point.

Oh, mine is a terrible idea, but maybe one of the least bad. I like your idea of making it reusable somehow.

I agree with others here when they say that age-verification laws aren’t about children at all, and identification isn’t a side effect, it’s the raison d’être.
But if I were to earnestly try to solve the problem, I might look to the physical (non-online) world. In every part of the world I’ve been to, buying alcohol requires one thing; to be of age. So if you very clearly look of age, you are allowed to buy it. If you look younger, you may be asked to provide ID proving you are old enough. While some vendors may take additional precautions such as scanning your ID, it is not a requirement and most do not. They simply look at your ID to verify, then allow the purchase.
One could buy a physical verification token, like one might buy a gift card currently, and the purchase requires the same verification as buying alcohol. Imagine you buy a plastic gift-card-like item branded Roblox and they verify you are of age, when you sign up for Roblox you enter in the details of the gift-card-like item. You are verified to be of age, and no-one has any other details.
I’d look at retired business machine, preferably something small like Lenovo or Dell SFF office pc, with 8th gen i3 at minimum. 8th gen is where the integrated gpu shines for this purpose. Install plex or Jellyfin. And if possible, stick to internal drives instead of external; one fewer thing to draw extra power. You could even do a second drive internally for backup.
Thirdly, the rips you’ll get from the alternative methods will likely be a better quality and/or smaller file size than a personal rip.
One thing you might consider is skipping buying the Blu-ray player and obtaining your movie rips alternatively. Only you know your appetite for risk, but so long as you’re only getting copies of the movies you own, I’d guess the risk is small. Besides, simply ripping your physical discs isn’t strictly legal everywhere, so that itself may have a small risk.
Put the money you save into a better machine.
And the pedophilia, right?
