If BBC Science Magazine was texting me at 1.29am to ask “Why do the British talk about the weather so much?”, BBC Science Magazine and I would be having words - especially if they texted me six hours later to ask about plants!

If we stopped all shipments today, Israel still has enough weapons and ammo to continue their current spree for about 8 months. I say we cut them off and send these munitions to Ukraine instead.
Those are structural couches, providing a basin for more contents.
Las Vegas police are refusing to comply with the NFL’s new plan to use facial recognition technology for stadium employees during games. Even though police often use facial recognition to identify suspects, they say giving their biometric data to an unaccountable company crosses a line.
I’d’ve called the front desk when they were screaming at each other in the room. The front desk handles this sort of thing more than you and would have a better feel as to whether (for example) these are regular customers, how the local cops react, whether this is a normal or irregular occurrence for the area, etc. If the front desk or the cops had then stopped by the room with a noise complaint, that may have interrupted the disagreement enough that it may not have escalated later on. If they didn’t stop by with a noise complaint, I very likely would have done the standard ‘banging on the wall to get them to shut up’ thing, which may have had the same effect (I have trouble sleeping and this nose would’ve made me very irritable). I don’t know if I’d’ve opened my hotel room door, but I’d’ve at least looked out the peephole to assess the situation - and I’d’ve double-checked the lock and chain on the door during the first argument.
It must be nice to live in a world where rape and coercion don’t exist, where every pregnancy is carried to term without endangering the life of the mother, and where every child is born entirely healthy. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to live in reality, not your pleasing little fantasy world.
I like how you completely ignore the man’s options for not getting someone pregnant. Like, say masturbation, abstention, non-vaginal sex, sex with people who can’t get pregnant, vasectomy, and condoms. But somehow it’s all the woman’s problem, isn’t it?
A time traveler’s survival guide. The vertical green bars are the only times in Earth’s history with enough oxygen to breathe (hypoxia) and low enough to avoid oxygen toxicity (hyperoxia):
I’m delighted we’re sending these over to Ukraine (though it should have been done a long time ago).
Question: the F-16s are planes. Is there some reason we’re loading them onto other planes for transport instead of flying them over?
The top handle is for someone stepping into or out of the tub. The lower handle is for someone trying to stand from a shower chair, or pulling themselves up from the floor.
Considering the entire population of the Strip is 2.04 million, that means they’ve driven almost everyone from their homes - and likely destroyed those homes as well.
That’s been a general movement away from rural America for decades (and people have been leaving the countryside to make their fortune in the big city for centuries). However, this line stood out to me because of the timeframe cited:
A whopping 81 percent of rural counties had more deaths than births between 2019 and 2023.
Maybe I’m just still bitter, but maybe they should have tried social distancing, wearing masks, and getting vaccinated.
True. But for the most part, squid are also not chittering outside at night, banging on the windows trying to get in.
The night of the insurrection, he stayed late to clean the Capitol building.
Because we’re not a cult, not hypocrites, and we have morals.
Symbiosis. Google drives traffic to reddit (the largest current organic source of natural English content), then harvests all of reddit’s data for their AI.
Price increases happen overnight, or with everything tracked and digitized, this could lead supermarkets to charge more money right when demand spikes or maybe in the future even target particular shoppers willing to pay more.
They’re going to take your frequent shopper card and figure out what your price point for different goods are. Then they’re going to take their tracking of your cellphone and figure out when you’re approaching your favorite goods, to raise the price. The technology for everything part of this already exists and is being used, it’s just a question of who links everything up first.
I wasn’t?
