I had previously expected the recent US-China negotiation to have at least involved a small rate cut as a sign of good will, but it looks like the US-China talk is far from over.

Isn’t the US Fed independent from the other branches when it comes to setting interest rates? Is it possible that trade talks (on the US side led by trump and his cabinet I’m assuming) could lead to a guaranteed rate increase/decrease? Trump has been yelling at Jerome Powell to lower the rates for months now
