I had lobbyists from car companies threaten me in my own office.02·2 months agoNext year is a mayoral election year, so all this feels like political posturing to me. I don’t doubt that the “diesel lobby” wasn’t pleased with her changes, but the way she tells it smells like victimization. Also having a car-less approach to running a city is not exactly controversial in the year of our lord 2025. There are a lot of cities that pioneered car-less city design before she got into office ( altough in her defense, this kind of change may be harder to implement in extra large metropolitan areas like Paris ). Oh, and another thing: she’s been in office 11 years and traffic-wise the city hasn’t changed much outside the central touristy areas. You’d think she could’ve done a lot more in that kind of time. I go through the city every now and then and I feel the only thing that changed is the growing number of trikes and motorcycles on the periferiques. Maybe someone from Paris can chime in on her actual accomplishments?

Mark my words, soon it’ll be a requirement to have the xbox app to run your steam stuff ( or smth similar )
Plastic may be so, but glass recycling has been a thing for decades (depending on where you are), aliminium recycling is all well, same for paper (if grease free) There’s also wooden alternatives for a lot of plastic/silicon stuff, and wood can be reused/burned/mulched.
So in a way it IS your responsibility - to give up plastic
absquatulate@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•The specter of a GTA 6 delay haunts the games industry: 'Some companies are going to tank' if they guess wrong, says analystEnglish301·3 months agoThis is so strange. Wasn’t it not long ago that studios were crowding into very specific release windows ( usually november iirc ) so they could maximize initial sales? Maybe the digital release era has changed things. I mean, I get it if your game was in the same niche or smth, but “companies might tank” seems a little much.
Either way, if this is true, eoy 2025 is in for a dry spell when it comes to new games.
Edit: Also I find it hilarious how all these “industry analysts” keep popping up suggesting ominous things despite Rockstar not saying a peep about the game besides the trailer. Almost as if they were paid to do it.

On the one hand, this pretty much confirms that the leading parties have been colluding to manipulate elections. The ideal situation would have been him getting his ass whoopped by being voted out. On the other, there was a non-zero chance that he might actually have won.
Either way, the shitshow is not even close to being over. These parties make up 32% of our current parliament, and they’re likely to grow after this stunt, so we’ll have to deal with this crap again during the next election cycle, or sooner.
absquatulate@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Denmark's postal service to stop delivering lettersEnglish1·4 months agoThis is so sad. I thought the whole paper mail infrastructure was essentially eternal due to its importance.
Letter numbers have fallen since the start of the century from 1.4 billion to 110 million last year.
110 million is still A LOT of paper letters. Shame the service will be gone.
PostNord has weathered years of financial struggles and last year was running a deficit.
Again, I thought this was a national strategic resource, regardless of profit. Over here in europe’s armpit the national post has been running at a loss for nigh on 40 years, and it’s still kept afloat, for better or worse.

absquatulate@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Are there any games like Starfield?English5·6 months agoThese are the ones I’ve played over the years. Hope I’m not missing anything:
Elite Dangerous - Highly reccomend this, it’s basically a huge sandbox, with full size galaxy, “real” star distances and orbits, excellent flight model. It also has the most awesome community around it. Downsides are that while it has lore and ongoing background story, there’s no quest, no interesting characters, no rpg elements. Also there’s quite a learning curve, and quite a grind (albeit maneageable these days). There’s also a new colonization feature in the works that will involve a lot of comunity effort. If you do decide to play it, join a group, a squad, or just buzz me so I can add you here and there. Friends make the game sooo much better.
Everspace 2 - This may be what you’re looking for, as it has story, good gameplay, arcadey flight model and lots of rpg elements. Overall a great game. Only problem with it is that it’s not particularly large. Its universe is far smaller than starfield’s.
NMS - Another one with an immense galaxy. This one has a storyline, but not a lot of rpg elements. A lot of it is procedural and after a while feels very samey and shallow. It does have crossplay and a great community as well.
X4 - Not especially large, but great single player game, with a universe that feels lived in. Also no rpg and I hear the endgame gets a bit managery.
Spacebourne - Haven’t played it long but iy gas good potential. There’s a bunch of systems, there’s quests, reminds me a bit of freelancer. The downside is that there’s a single dev, so development is slow and there’s a fair amount of jank.
Edit:
ME - I feel it is still king of story driven spage-rpg even after all these years. Maybe give Andromeda a try? The story is meh, but it has great gameplay, and far fewer bugs.

It’s a former live service converted to singleplayer/coop, so the story kind of blows. But it’s a good ARPG - a Torchlight meets Warframe sort of thing.
