I was a mod on TheSilphRoad, a Pokémon GO mechanics/research/theory sub. Being both a buggy and multiplayer game, rants and hate posts are going to be common, but we really had to draw a line in the sand due to how prevalent it was/is. “We are here to discuss game mechanics. If you want to complain, take it to the general discussion sub.” Because if they used the cover of discussing how a mechanic is broken and the last 1/3 of the post was a rant, the ONLY discussion on the post was going to be quips and complaints. We got called Niantic shills a lot.

But it made a MONUMENTAL difference in changing the culture of that space. It fostered a lot of data-driven analysis that would have been ignored on a sub that would otherwise be dedicated to pointing out flaws and yelling at the devs.

Fediverse is exactly the same. Anyone can make any community they want. You need to make YOUR community in your image, lest it become a place that doesn’t suit the purpose in the first place. The complaints will always be 10x louder than appreciation of keeping a maintained space, so keep that in mind.

Snark aside, xcancel just got a C&D so it’s good to have tools that allow anonymous viewing of Twitter. I’d prefer if companies and people moved to Mastodon but as it stands, I occadionally take links there for announcements, updates, and art.

What you’re complaining about is seeing actual fetish content on a website. Like, there’s porn and porn-adjacent stuff on the internet? Wowzers! It’s like seeing celebrity pictures in skimpy clothes on the celeb subs, or women in bikinis on Sports Illustrated.

What you need to do is curate your content a bit more, not police others’ preferences.

Yup, continually fascinating to me. I guess they don’t want to speak out against the government but what they do say makes them seem so petty and childish. It seriously has the same vibes as “Mommy took away my baseball bat so now I can’t play! I only hit three other kids, it’s not fair!”

I must have been lucky in 2024 then. Drove 8 hours to see it, stayed until about an hour after totality, took about 10 hours to get back. Not bad considering it was 500 miles one-way.

Definitely a tough call, but it does sound like you have a good thing going. It sounds like your boss values you, so I’d suggest you take the route my wife did. She didn’t want to deal with the meetings/paperwork of a promotion, but talked her boss into getting a pay raise and some benefits while keeping her current role. Doesn’t hurt to ask. Best of luck!

Keep in mind that more physically demanding jobs wear your body down faster. And if you took the office job and it wasn’t your cup of tea, how difficult would it be to go back to your current position?

My wife turned down an office promotion but negotiated basically all the pay and benefits of it to keep her current role, maybe you could give that a shot?

I played the Lunacid demo and theres a lot to like. It’s moody and myaterious, and the controls are just modern enough to not get annoying. But the combat itself is very of the time and really doesn’t interest me anymore.
