The first and foremost important thing, which is also the most difficult, is to absolutely dissolve the CIA trained national military institutions of these countries. This usually happens in two ways: organize a large enough part of the working class so that the top brass agree to not intervene, and then oust them using trusted junior officers. Or arm the working class and taker the institutions by force (probably the most difficult in latam as you probably also would have to fight against US forces).

Yen is also creeping up, I wonder if it is time to withdraw from the stockmarket (yeye you shouldn’t try to time it I know). At the same time, I feel like Trump is so emotionally invested in having the stockmarket do well that they might just continue to “print baby, print” until there is no country left.

The US military already lost against Ansarallah once. I also wonder if there is some shared understanding between US/Iran that if neither directly intervenes in the Yemeni/Saudi affairs the other wont either (still rumors of both sides aiding with intelligence etc of course). Especially since the US is already taking a beating with regards to munitions and such, I don’t think they’d wan’t to invite an escalation like this, in spite of the posturing.

I honestly don’t think it constitutes as “solving” the problem anyway (neither the researchers nor openai). Although I am not super up to how the Clay institute formulated the conditions for claiming the prize.

I think the drama is a bit two-fold. There is the question of whether OpenAI scraped/used the human researchers chats to gobble up a result in just two days (one of the researchers spoke with OpenAI two days prior and then suddenly they present a proof using the same stuff).

Then there is a whole other drama of OpenAI trying to pressure Buckmaster to dissociate with Alpöge because he works for Anthropic instead of OpenAI etc etc. Which obviously is frowned upon.

There is probably more but that seems to be the gist of it from what I can tell. Probably will be developments throughout the day.

I am on the other side of analysis, so def not an expert on NS, but Alpöge and Buckmasters work seem substantial, and as with all mathematics it heavily builds upon previous ground work of Diego Córdoba and Martínez-Zoroa. MZ particularly has made substantial progress in how we can construct forced blow ups.

In theory there might not be anything preventing their methods for working on the full NS, but it is thought to be insanely technical. Possibly something that LLMs and throwing A LOT of compute at could solve.

Generally, these companies are not only throwing billions of dollars worth of compute at these problems, they are also employing top-tier HUMAN mathematicians (some of the worlds best) to work on these problems using their internal tools. Then when things are getting published, the human part of the equation is usually reported on…
