Some Scandinavian fascist from 10 years ago. ContraPoints essentially started her career by doing video breakdowns of his content.

Chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•Question for Millenial and GenZ women here: How many of you joined the Bernie 2016 movement because, according to the Feminist Icon, you were chasing boys?English
17·7 days agoIt’s essentially the same as the wealthy English Suffragettes. The main leaders of that went on to become fascists because they weren’t actually interested in equality, they just wanted to move up the social hierarchy

Chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•Fun fact: Lake Ontario isn't named after the province Ontario, the province was named after the lake. "Oniatarí-io" translates to "lake of shining waters" in indigenous HaudenosauneeEnglish
7·9 days agoPlenty of that across languages since people would go to an area and ask the locals “what do you call this lake/river/mountain range/desert/ocean?” And since that was the only lake/river/mountain range/desert/ocean the locals really knew about, it was just called that in their language.

Chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•"You dont Understand, you have to support the lesser evil"English
2·14 days agoSo I think I see what your interpretation is now. The meme is trying to point out that American liberals are more concerned about respectability and appearances rather than not doing racist things. The Democrats have no problems bombing foreign children. What they don’t like is openly admitting that the government is doing it for racist reasons. But the leftist perspective is that it doesn’t if the government is doing war crimes in a “tasteful” manner since the end result is the same to those being killed.
The point is that Trump isn’t doing anything different than Obama, Biden, or GWB did, he is just openly admitting that he is doing it for racist reasons. Liberals had no issue with bombing Yemen when Obama was doing it, or with aiding Israel do genocide on Palestine, they only took umbridge with it once the government openly stated they were doing it for racist reasons.

Sino@hexbear.net•This is another way to say "but at what cost"English
3·17 days agoMost manufacturing does not need to be done at the same level of precision or cleanliness that advanced electronic components require though. I used to work at a small injection molding factory making storage totes and we had ONE press that could automatically put stickers on a large tote. Every other press required the operator to put the sticker in by hand while they inspected for issues with the product.
And I’m not saying that all automation is useless, as most food packaging plants are fairly well automated with operators just ensuring that everything goes correctly, but it will never be viable to replace those workers with a robot since they will never be able to adapt to a sudden change like a human can.

Sino@hexbear.net•This is another way to say "but at what cost"English
7·18 days agoI agree with you there. The cost to keep them running will never be cheaper than just paying someone to do the work. Every factory I have ever worked in had automated processes that sat unused and collecting dust in some corner because the accountant said it was cheaper to pay someone to do that task all day than to maintain the process.

2·20 days agoWell yeah, because surveillance pricing targets poor people to squeeze every dollar out of them while the wealthy get off easy. Income based fines unfairly target the wealthy for being successful, while surveillance pricing justly punishes the moral failing of being poor.

electoralism@hexbear.net•RIP to the Russiagate LiberalsEnglish
4·20 days agoRussiagate was the way liberals could square the circle of losing elections despite being “the good guys”. Rather than ask themselves if neoliberal policies and “stay the course” politics was viable, they just blamed Russia so that they could carry on. Go look at any politics thread in .world and you’ll see it. Liberals would rather lose elections than admit that their political ideology has failed.

1·23 days agoDo you have anything about Gilmour being a Zionist? All I can find are Zionist rags saying he is anti-Israel, which is effectively meaningless, but that doesn’t scream Zionist to me.
He was calling Waters an anti-semite for criticism against Israel and being pro-palestine.

8·29 days agoI have a collection of old Hungarian records my buddies found at a goodwill in rural Ohio. Some real bangers in there but they all had a sticker saying "From the collection of the most Hungarian name I have ever seen so I looked the guy up and found his obituary. He was born about a week before the siege if Budapest, and then his family fled to the US during the Hungarian uprising. His obituary was wild to read and it looked like he donated all his records before moving into a nursing home. But I love looking up the names on my record collection to see what I can learn about the journey the objects have been on. It makes me feel like I should start putting my name on all of my physical media as well to keep the journey going
