When these taggers are recognisable across a wide metropolitan area, they aren’t creating local community art.
When they tag a community asset, or someone’s fence (the distinction of personal property) that they didn’t want and have to rectify, what are they providing beyond self gratification?
If I came and tagged your house and your stuff, are you going to say nothing because my artistic desires amongst myself and a handful of people are more important than your personal feelings?
It’s community art that is representative of elements of the surrounding community. Why does an absolute tiny minority who may not even live in that community get to ruin their artwork?
This community health centre is right next door to an area that is 95%+ public housing consisting of indigenous peoples, refugees, and migrants. Are they not allowed to have unsullied community art?

I have seen the discourse of taggers in my city many many times over the multiple decades. This is a place renowned for its laneway graffiti if that gives a clue.
It is literally the culture to just tag your name in places to show you were there and take pride in that fact. It is not about being against the system other than some vague notion of being against the system.
And they absolutely hate muralists.
Taggers are dickheads who treat the world like they’re dogs marking their territory.
