Aw sweet we’re doing caviar again

No,he’s a national hero in Romania because the myth making made him into a symbol of resistance against an invading empire. I don’t see the issue with that. Yes,the modern “oh this is just like immigration” Islam vs Christianity framing is Nazi shit, but he wasn’t anymore brutal than the average ruler from that time be it from Europe or anywhere else from that matter. Note that I’m not excusing this, but I’m just tired of people regurgitating this myth that he was uniquely brutal for his time.
That originates from the Saxon merchants in Transylvania under the crown of Hungary at the time, which had dealings with him and were attacked by him. That’s why he’s “Dracula”. Also,he was a hostage at the Ottoman court with his brother Radu when he was young. Impaling was actually an Ottoman punishment that he practiced! Wallachia at the time was politically unstable, with the rulers changing all of the time due to outside influence and inner turmoil from Boyar power jockeying. The Order of the Dragon shit was just his tactic to get the Catholics on his side so he could put himself on the throne.
I understand why this seems off putting, but from what I remember, outside of far right circles, the framing here is simply that he represents our willingness to resist the empires that dominated us and wanted to assimilate or erase our identity, like the Ottomans in the case of him and his contemporary, Stephen the Great of Moldavia, or the Austria-Hungarian Empire and the Russian Empire. Yes, in reality they were simply noblemen that wanted power and couldn’t give less of a shit about the concept of a unified Romanian nation or the sanctity of Orthodox Christianity, but every nation engages in myth making and I find the creation of a national mythology based on persevering against hostile empires far less worrisome than glorifying the creation and perpetuation of said empires themselves.

The implication is that they want it to go into the port, hence the “malicious jamming”

Another narrative I have seen is that the Ukrainians were targeting a Russian oil tanker who was leaving the docks at Constanta (let’s just gloss over the fact that this was in Romanian territorial waters) and that the Russians jammed it on purpose, either to make NATO look stupid if it went into the port (which it did) or to actually cause some damage
I have seen some speculation that this wasn’t a dead man’s switch and that someone piloted this on purpose
Now,the basic assumption is Russia, but you could also interpret it as a Ukrainian attempt to draw NATO in, which does somewhat mesh with the fact that they announced that the drone was theirs and going to explode mere minutes before it did

Timeline of how things unfolded-according to Romanian govt

Legend:
Red- explosion site
Comvex- private port operator building
Chimpex- chemical storage with ammonium nitrate

Constanta drone incident was a hair’s breadth away from a much larger disaster-similar in scale to Beirut 2020

I wasn’t saying that he was
My point is that this is the prelude
I’m sorry,do you honestly think this is a good thing? That the principled UK government restricted the freedom of travel for the reformist and took a bold stance against revisionism? Or do you think that this creates a permission structure for more dire measures in the future? My argument isn’t that he’s getting tossed in an ICE camp now, it’s that he may well be in the future!
Sorry, but this is ridiculous,do you honestly think he’s safe just because he’s palatable now and has money? That he’s a plant and that this is kayfabe? Let’s just forget the Niemoller poem,I guess. Unlike the person above that made some reasonable points,I think this is exactly what I’m talking about. Dunk politics central

Mfs will literally see him and other “soft left” people get tossed into an ICE facility and still Tut Tut here about how he’s a lib
I don’t think you’re completely wrong, but come on,I think there’s a more pressing issue here than getting a nice dunk on on your favorite streamer to hate because he’s not radical enough
I really don’t get the schadenfreude, you do know you’re next on the chopping block, right? First they silence the voices with more reach and then no one can speak out when they come for the average person in full force

Because it’s not about him as a figure being infallible, far from it
It is a combination of the radicalization he helped incite in many who used him as a starting off point for their own journey left and the fact that he did things such as go to Cuba with the Nuestra America flotilla and have Palestinian voices on the program,as well as left figures with reasonable credentials such as Melanchon and Varoufakis
And I just simply don’t buy the narrative that he’s a Vaush or a Contrapoints type or that he’s a grifter or a Fed or whatever
One,you can do all of those things for way less effort and way less backlash,so I don’t get the argument that he’s grifting off of what is a very small audience that would be receptive to said grift when there are much better cash cows to milk
And two, if he were any of those things, why would such figures agree to be on the same broadcast as he is and have their beliefs promoted? Are they that clueless or desperate that they can’t sniff out something being off?
I think people like to slide into the comfortable narrative that he’s insincere because it’s easier to square that circle than admit that people have malleable morals and will bend and twist them in order to get what they think is a beneficial outcome. Basically,I think he’s sincere about what he says, and that the true disagreement here is about the method rather than the moral character of the person.
You are perfectly well within your rights to lambast him for collaborating with liberal Zionists and attempting to do entryism into the Dems in the hopes that they do something drastic and implode, basically pushing back the formation of a socialist pole in American politics to a fuzzy and uncertain day when shit is hitting the fan rapidly right now and people getting stuck on a side quest of making the democrat party implode wastes time and progress that could have been made, but I do understand his logic for doing what he does, even if I disagree with it.

I actually do have a problem with my sleep schedule,so thanks

Someone totally didn’t become insecure because their beliefs were challenged and now proudly struts their “conviction” as a fig leaf for their total lack of a rebuttal
Finally a post that actually deals with what he actually believes instead of the same old dunk sesh that goes on every time he’s mentioned
I was hoping someone would take his actual position and offer the relevant critique in order to start an actually productive conversation about the motivations and shortcomings of this approach,so thank you very much for writing this

“In this house,Nobusuke Kishi is a hero, end of story!”

Actually I have it on good authority the candidates stance on the One China policy was the deciding factor, with AIPAC making attack ads equating her stance of opposing Chinese reunification with her opposition against the Israeli colonization and ethnic cleansing of Palestine, stating: Palestine is our Taiwan
Except Romania had good relations with the DPRK at the time, and the time she left Romania was before the July theses which are often cited as the beginning of the rather poor attempt to replicate Juche in Romania, with the period prior being described as a “thawing” similar to Perestroika, where limited cultural exchange with the West and lessening of restrictions was implemented
