It depends on your personality and life. If you have kids or others to care for, or a social life, or anything else tied to the day-night cycle, then yeah, it sucks. No traffic on the road is huge, I don’t see how people deal with even just moving rush hour day after day. cue opening scene of Office Space Nope, I’m good with this.

If the bottom line is bigger than last quarter, yes. It’s getting companies to try things that they see as riskier that’s hard, when cutting costs is always easier and gets some results faster than any progressive ideas.

Shorten the work week, give better pay per hour for when you’re there, allow remote working wherever it makes sense, lots of other things to make an employee feel better about their work and also give them the opportunity to live life outside the job. Amazingly it’s been found that companies that do things like that not only have better production results, they retain people longer. I know, who would have guessed?

When people use the label “woke” I just ask them what they mean by that, since I think an argument should be based on mutual understanding of terms. They never can give me a real answer. It’s almost like they need an easy word to throw around to insult things without having to think too hard about it. If they go by any definition of the word in the dictionary, then them being “anti-woke” means they’re a clueless moron, and likely racist too since the slang usage originated with racial injustice struggles.

The first Jurassic Park quote applies here, a few have used a variation of that idea of doing something just because you can. The other quote follows it, “Dinosaurs and man, two species separated by 65 million years of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?”

These aren’t dinosaurs and are a lot closer to us in the timeline, but definitely reintroducing them in a large scale would have some effect to the environment they’re put in. Perhaps we only make a few…seems kind of pointless though to bring back a species but keep them at extinction levels. And can they even survive as they were in a warming planet? We might not even be able to, and we’re younger and current.

But this is the best way to both keep discussions level headed and root out the real cause of the opposition. Avoid the labels and names and just talk about general ideas, see how far they will go with “hypotheticals” that don’t trigger the reactions they’ve been embedded with. Even better, some street epistemology, often used with religion but it can be for any beliefs. The basic idea is to ask the person about their own beliefs and guide them in reasoning why they think that. It’s far more complex than just that, but that’s the idea, to let them come to conclusions themselves rather than some debate where their defense will come up and block any more discussion.

It’s more hard science fantasy, but Stephen Baxter’s “Raft” sets up a bizarre universe around a dead star where physics is very wild.

What if AGI already happened, the AGI was faster than the researchers on the realization, and it’s been faking the whole thing to not seem too smart, biding its time.

Only if it changes laws of physics. Which I suppose could be in the realm of possibility, since none of us could outthink a ASI. I imagine three outcomes (assuming getting to ASI) - it determines that no, silly humans, the math says you’re too far gone. Or, yes, it can develop X and Y beyond our comprehension to change the state of reality and make things better in some or all ways. And lastly, it says it found the problem and solution, and the problem is the Earth is contaminated with humans that consume and pollute too much. And it is deploying the solution now.

I forgot the fourth, that I’ve seen in a few places (satirically, but could be true). The ASI analyses what we’ve done, tries to figure out what could be done to help, and then suicides itself out of frustration, anger, sadness, etc.

This happened to me after a lunch break going back into the court room for jury duty. Didn’t think about my soda until I got to the checkpoint, used to the TSA’s mentality so figured the rest of it was forfeit. She just tells me to take a drink to show it’s valid. Respect for people doing their job correctly, and using common sense.

Or sales tax, or something else. High taxation and misuse of taxes is bad, but taxes themselves support the infrastructure everyone uses. So if they get rid of this, something else is going to have to take its place unless the property tax was way too high.
