Fair enough. I didn’t mean to imply that we’re as good as the French at protesting. I don’t think anyone is. They are the world champion protestors. I wonder what platform they use to organize.

Yes, I covered that in my comment.
Are you saying that if the people organizing the event aren’t members of Congress, that they will be targeted and vanish? That’s a scary thought. Perhaps the leaders should be kept anonymous.
I would argue that we are. 21,000 in Paris is very similar to 34,000 in Denver. The thing us Americans need to get better at is organizing ourselves. We shouldn’t require leaders like Bernie Sanders and AOC to get us to show up. The regular people of France are amazing at protesting on their own, and we desperately need that kind of energy.
This is one of those comments where I didn’t realize how badly I needed to read it until I did. This kind of support from the countries our dictator is actively alienating is extremely beneficial for morale. Thanks!
Deal with it? You mean, like, primary you and the 9 other simps who voted for this bill? Okay. That’s good advice, thanks Fetterman.
Last Week Tonight did a story about dollar stores:

Yeah, they’re as bad as you’d expect.
Fun fact: there have been several instances throughout history where someone had the opportunity to interview known cannibals. The most obvious question that comes to mind is “what do we taste like,” and the answer has always been pork.
Maybe this had something to do with the taboo. It certainly turned me off the idea of eating pork.
I hope you’re right. Zelenskyy not being a politician probably helped him win an election in a country with a history of corruption. People were sick of the status quo and picked an outsider in the hopes it would improve things. It would be great if that happened here. (I don’t consider Trump an outsider, that was just part of the grift)
Part of the reason it can be annoying when people keep suggesting Stewart run for office is that it distracts from actual candidates who are willing to run. And false optimism isn’t exactly a good strategy in times like these.
I would love to be proven wrong, though.
I do. It doesn’t change what he has said repeatedly: he has no interest in running for office.
The kind that is supposed to be an animal, but has successfully separated itself from nature through technology. Modern humans are plagued with anxiety and negativity bias, because those things kept our ancestors alive long enough to reproduce. The happy, anxiety-free people were careless and died before they could reproduce.
Why do people keep saying this about Jon Stewart? He’s a comedian, and he has said over and over and over and over and over that he will not run for public office, ever.
I wish I could award this comment. It follows my occasional and unfulfilling conversations with Republicans extremely closely. If the conversation doesn’t end with wanting to pull my hair out and put my head through the nearest available drywall, did I really talk to Republican?
Fjallraven makes technical pants that are fantastically durable, and waterproof. They are waterproof because they are a waxed canvas, so you can remove the waterproofing and make them more durable by washing them on a hot cycle, or add wax and melt it into the fabric with a heat gun.
They’re expensive, so wait for one of their sales. I paid $140ish (USA) for both of my pairs, it it was worth every cent. They come with a lifetime warranty, so living near a fjallraven store is helpful as they will repair them and wax them for you for free.
Technically they’re only supposed to provide this service for 10 years after purchase (which is still worth it considering how much abuse I put them through) but Fjallraven employees will still provide tailoring/waxing even if you don’t have a receipt. I asked someone at their Seattle location about this and they said they have a customer who has been bringing in their pants for repair for 30 years. They’ll mail your clothes back to you after they finish with repairs/waxing.
I have two pairs, one vidda pro ventilated for shoulder seasons and winter, and one pair of abisko lite trekking zip offs for summer. The vidda pro pants I use for winter sports instead of snow pants. The zip offs can be converted into shorts for hot days.
Yes, it sure is. Driving by one of these convoys is such an absurd experience. Make them take the bus!
It took a moment for this delectable meta humor to register in my brain. Top notch.
