  • While I wholeheartedly agree. I do want to make one small note for anyone that reads this and thinks like I did.

Don’t get one if you want to use it for professional audio work. It’s a niche use case I know but I thought I’d be able to install Reaper and use it as a little music workstation since reaper is just right in the discover store. Unfortunately, the Steam Deck’s audio drivers are basically only good for playing back audio. When trying to do audio work they were unusably buggy and had a bunch of latency.

If you want a little computer to make music with get a raspberry pi instead. Use the steam deck for gaming like it was intended for and don’t be dumb like I was.

  • I’ve recently this past year or so let my hair grow out past my shoulders for the first time since middle school and because of that I’ve become a hat guy for the first time in my life to keep hair out of my face. This past May I went to Pax East and bought a NASA hat and a really cool looking Atari trucker hat as souvenirs. The NASA hat ended up fitting a little better for my head so it became my every day hat but just the other day I remembered I hadn’t seen the Atari hat in a while. Looked everywhere for it and I can’t find it. No idea where it went and im so pissed. It was a really cool hat.

It definitely weirds me out too and I at one point definitely had this opinion. But then I was with a woman once who I was very, very attracted to; Possibly more than anyone else I’ve been with. (Not that that’s a bunch of people) She started calling me daddy repeatedly while we were getting into, and despite me being a little weirded out by it I, uh, didn’t stop.

Horny is a hell of a thing.

  • Everybody is saying this is politically motivated and I don’t really think I buy that. Not ruling out the possibility entirely, though. Anything is possible but the logic just doesn’t work out to me.

First, CBS paid Trump. Trump didn’t pay them. They already capitulated by paying him off. Why would they capitulate further by getting rid of the most popular late night program if it was profitable?

Second, if this was political why are they keeping the show on until May of next year? Wouldn’t trump want them to cancel it sooner?

Third, they’re canceling the late show entirely. If they were canceling it to get someone critical of trump out of there why wouldn’t they just replace colbert with someone more favorable to him?

Fourth, these shows have had declining ratings for years now and the writing has been on the wall for a long time that these shows were not going to be able to hang around for forever in today’s streaming climate. I think more cancelation announcements are likely.

As much as I hate trump and wouldn’t put something like this past him I really don’t think it’s likely that this has anything to do with him. Doing this for money reasons is fully in line with how terrible capitalism is for art and I can absolutely believe that this was some dumbfuck accounting decision.

  • People are still trying to push this nonsense that democratic candidates need to appeal to the objectively dumbest people in this country in order to be a viable candidate. Its ridiculous. Red voters are only ever going to vote red. They always have and they always will. Left leaning people in this country outnumber right leaning people by a wide margin (because reality has a left leaning bias). The issue is that dem individuals often just don’t vote when a candidate is put forward who is cowtowing to the right. The right still votes right and the left doesn’t vote. Then we get what we have now. If dems put forward a politician that progressive voters actually want they’ll have a much better chance. And AOC is probably a more well liked dem politician right now (among the left) than anyone else except maybe Bernie. But he’s probably too old at this point. So AOC makes the most sense right now to me and probably anyone else with a brain.

  • Correct me if I’m wrong here but a company can’t dictate what you do on your own time on your own hardware, so I assume this simply affects work computers. Assuming thats the case I don’t really see a problem here. I’ve never been able to download any applications at all on any work computer I’ve ever used short of apps the company itself uses.

Seems completely understandable to me to bar employees from using a competing service especially if there are genuine security concerns.

My only issue with this statement is that it implies there were cats that sounded different from how domesticated cats sound now. I’m not really conviced of that. To my understanding they have a high pitch voice because they’re small. For instance you can find videos online where they record a tiger “meowing” then they pitch it up to the register of a house cat. The resulting meow sounds nearly indistinguishable (other than the digital artifacts Inherent to doing such a thing) from a regular house cat’s meow. Now tigers obviously didn’t adapt to meowing like infants so my conclusion is that cats just sound like that and natural (human?) Selection had very little if anything to do with it.

Yes, but the question is if they model their meows to sound like human infants. We know they changed their behavior to meow when wanting attention from us. But I’d be willing to bet they didn’t model their meows to sound like that. They just happen to sound like that because they’re small animals with high pitch voices.
