  • I had a co-worker who couldn’t stop bragging about an angle grinder he got for $5 at Harbor Freight.

I thought that’s a pretty good deal, so I went in and got some gardening tools, in particular a shovel that was only a few bucks.

The very first time I stuck that shovel into dirt, the metal head bent and sheared off.

The next day I told my co-worker what happened, and he went on to admit his angle grinder only powered on one time before it broke. “But it was only $5!” He added.

I think everyone gets their “one and done” experience there.

  • Oh most definitely. I don’t want my players to fail (if I can help it) and generally try to reward creative thinking, but also want their victories to be earned and not just fudged rolls or suddenly dumb NPCs.

I think where the line gets crossed is when they’re doing actions their character would never do, or they’re trying to poke holes in the set without a clear goal. I usually ask additional questions to see what they expect to happen (in case they are playing 4D chess), but sometimes they’re just trying to cause chaos, in which case I got to pull them aside and give them the talk.

  • Han Solo thought it was a moon up until he was in tractor beam distance. I’d imagine you wouldn’t see it from hyperspace, but even if you did manage to get within visual distance of it, you’d probably assume it was an exoplanet or asteroid.

I guess the rebels on Alderaan should have been keeping an eye out for this thing but sensors in Star Wars seem to be a funky thing, since they have limited range and ships seem to bypass them all the time.

Edit: Totally forgot - The death star can enter hyperspace as shown in Rogue One. In may have only been in Alderaan’s space for a little while.
