How is it more accurate? I thought that in reality the “steps” are incredibly fast, but that makes it seem like it’s a much slower and more uncertain process.

I suspect a large chunk of people in denial have either never used it and are basing their judgment on memes and cherry-picked failure modes that go viral, or have only used the earlier/weaker models that are far more prone to hallucination. I use ChatGPT Plus regularly, and find it occasionally imperfect but still very useful, but a few times I’ve tried using it while logged out and the free model it defaults to was far more flawed. Probably why OpenAI built GPT5 around a marginally better but far more efficient model that they can roll out to everyone (including the large cohort of free users).
You can make the argument that AI is damaging or unsustainable or not worth the cost, but acting like no one likes or uses it is straight-up delusional. (Not as delusional as people falling in love with their chatbots, but the fact that people are kind of proves my point.)

0·3 months agoI’m wary of the hype over this gambit because it’s been tried several times in the recent past and has always ended with a few key legislators caving and returning to the capitol for no real concessions. Hopefully they realize that people are not in the mood for token resistance (and Abbott’s threats against them will steel their spines).
Yeah, this post shows a tragic lack of familiarity with the concept of zoomies.
I love when mine acts like this, only to walk back up, roll over, and meow for more. If you didn’t want to be snuggled, you would run away! I can see through your lies, cat.
my cat is sad.
no one else in his family is a cat
we are all human except for him
he is excluded from most things
and no one tells him why
he just wants to play
and be loved
he looks at us with wonder
and disappointment
he says hello i am a cat what is my existence
what is that / why it and not me / please can you look at me and love me too
can i have some of your food please im sorry i dont like my food so much
do you want to play with my toys? this one is my favourite
do you like me
are we brothers
why didnt i grow up
why am i so small
can you help me be happy
where are you going

To calculate reciprocal tariffs, import and export data from the U.S. Census Bureau for 2024. Parameter values for ε and φ were selected. The price elasticity of import demand, ε, was set at 4.
Recent evidence suggests the elasticity is near 2 in the long run (Boehm et al., 2023), but estimates of the elasticity vary. To be conservative, studies that find higher elasticities near 3-4 (e.g., Broda and Weinstein 2006; Simonovska and Waugh 2014; Soderbery 2018) were drawn on. The elasticity of import prices with respect to tariffs, φ, is 0.25. The recent experience with U.S. tariffs on China has demonstrated that tariff passthrough to retail prices was low (Cavallo et al, 2021).

1·8 months agoDrone warfare is politically agnostic. If it can be used by a Luigi against a healthcare CEO, it can be used by far-right extremists against progressive politicians, pride parades, or Black churches. I’m not very jazzed to live in the world of Slaughterbots.
I think I read that brains like these are basically normal in terms of structure and number of neurons, just compressed by the extra fluid pressure.
It’s a nice sentiment, but things haven’t exactly worked out for the pro-democracy movement in HK.

1·1 year agoDemocratic presidents since LBJ:
- Jimmy Carter
- Bill Clinton
- Barack Obama
Which ones had a bigger record of progressive economic accomplishments than Biden? Closest one is Obama, but his Recovery Act was less than half the size of Biden’s Rescue/Infra/IRA/CHIPS packages. Biden was also more strongly pro-union and pro-regulation, and accomplished his many wins in half the time and with far narrower majorities in both houses.

23·1 year agoThis would be a compelling argument if the Biden administration hadn’t been the most economically progressive since LBJ.
Reminds me of this really interesting video on the Mississippi Delta Chinese community – folks who are entirely of Chinese descent but who have thick Southern drawls and names like Gilroy, and still feel like outsiders despite living there their whole lives.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•US Elections question: Bernie Sanders said that the Democrats abandoned the working class, and the working class abandoned them. How is this true?English
01·1 year agoI see this claim so much, and it’s bullshit. Harris didn’t make a single policy concession to get Cheney on board. And why would she? The entire point of having her endorse was to send the message of “Trump is so dangerous that even people who disagree with me are choosing to support me.”
Mike Johnson is (as usual) full of shit. The DNC is still a month away and not a single state ballot deadline has passed.
