This is unironically true. Part of the reason the American hegemony was able to reproduce itself for so long was because there was knowledge of how to do things wrapped up in individual people. Just as an example, how to properly redact documents was probably something written down SOMEwhere, but nobody knows exactly where, so in practice the only reason anybody knew how to properly redact shit was due to a handful of geezers nearing retirement. Then those people all got shitcanned and never bothered to come back, so you get a shitshow like the half-assed redactions of the Ep files. I’m sure there’s hundreds of microcosms of this same instance happening across the empire, all the people who actually knew how to do the ghoulish shit and win got fucking fired cause of DEI and woke or whatever.

Quick pro tip for people in this place who haven’t had to deal with cold like this before: be careful with your layering of clothing, especially if you’re expecting to move around a lot. If you layer up a shitload and then start exercising (walking long distances, lifting lots of heavy stuff, etc) you will sweat so much that your clothes get wet, and then when you stop moving you will freeze. If you’re expecting to do exercise try to strip your layers down to just whatever keeps the windchill off, or at least have dry base layer replacements on hand.
