After playing San Andreas, I picked up Sleeping Dogs, and what a banger of a game it is.

The Yakuza games have the reputation of being “GTA but East Asian” and while it’s misleading there, it definitely fits for this game. The story is short (took me 20 hours) and good, but not short to the point of being unsatisfying (like Mafia 2), the gameplay and especially the combat are really fun.

The setting was an utter bullseye and I wish more games were set in contemporary China or Hong Kong, plus the soundtrack was pretty decent.

Overall, I’m very glad I played it even if I hadn’t gotten it for 3 € during the steam sale. Unfortunately, the sequel will probably never happen, and gaming has changed enough that I wouldn’t really trust it to be any good anyway.
