Chapotraphouse@hexbear.net•FanDuel sent a personal message from Phillies star Bryce Harper to a customer with a gambling addiction | GhostarchiveEnglish
38·3 months agoYeah gambling should be banned. I used to take the attitude that we should let people have their fun as long as they know the risks and all that bullshit, but it’s gotten so out of hand at this point thanks to frictionless online gambling services allowing addicts to destroy their lives without even having to leave the house.
At this point my anti-gambling platform is: fully criminalize the operation of any casinos, gambling websites, and informal gambling dens. All legal culpability is on the operators with zero legal risk to the patrons / addicts, effectively pitting patrons against the providers of the gambling. That way it becomes functionally impossible to run any gambling service because as soon as a person owes more money than they can easily tolerate, they have every incentive to go to the law and crash the whole thing.

31·3 months agoThese people suuuuuuck. The Platner shit has been so fucking frustrating to me since whenever it was I heard about the guy.
And they’re acting fucking surprised about it! When I heard this I was like “wait didn’t he already have allegations and say sketchy SA apologia shit on his confirmed reddit account?” And yes apparently, but that wasn’t enough.
Just absolutely shameful bullshit. I hope these people at least remember how they talked to the people who criticized this guy, now that they’ve finally arrived at the conclusion the rest of us have been at since more-or-less the beginning of his campaign gaining traction ( I have no faith in them to learn shit).

39·3 months agoAn important part of conservative rhetoric is turning the conversation away from the actual subject matter and toward some inane argument by analogy. “Capitalism is when you have two cows,” etc.
Albino Indian representation, clearly the creator is woke.

10·3 months agoI’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this landlord, and also sorry you got that sort of reception from those buttholes. I’ve always found the internet outside of explicitly left-wing spaces to be social-darwinist / classist shitholes with little or no sympathy for people poorer than them.

41·4 months agoReminds me of when Occupied Korea sent a bunch of K-Pop and K-dramas up north as a propaganda effort (which prompted the trash balloons), I remember thinking about how shitty / creepy K-pop can be to non fans (to me at least) and how so many k-dramas have a plot or at least a character whose whole point is how fucking shitty it is to live in Occupied Korea, how little class mobility there is, how fucking cutthroat and classist people can be against the poor, etc.

0·4 months agoHas anybody else always thought Seinfeld just sucked, even before learning he was a zionist predator? I remember I used to be miserable as a kid whenever his dumbass show came on, because it was about to be an hour of me being bored out of my fucking mind until something entertaining came on. I always thought the “joke” was supposed to be that he was fucking lame and had a dumbass voice, and sucked at comedy and wasn’t funny.
I’ll put it on record, Everytbody Loves Raymond > Seinfeld. Everybody Loves Raymond has at least made me chuckle a total of once, which is somehow eight times more than Seinfeld. Somebody check my math.
“A show about nothing”? Damn, I guess I prefer shows about something.

10·4 months agoI’m inclined to assume the parents who speak in those terms were the sort that maybe rushed into parenthood due to social / familial pressure. It sucks that there is still a lot of pressure to have kids even when it’s more and more difficult / risky financially.

askchapo@hexbear.net•Question for the MLs - why do we dislike Trots so much?English
30·5 months agoI honestly don’t think about trotskyism very much at all, but I will say I’ve always seen it as a sort of negative endorsement that Trotsky is among the more tolerated communist figures in US public education. What I mean is, when I was in public schools he was sometimes presented as “the good one” who meant well but was betrayed by the mean and scary ones.
So I figure, in US public education, schooling in the heart of capitalism, why is this guy in particular so conspicuously tolerated?

30·5 months agoThe tattoo is a red-herring for the fact that Platner “served” at Fallujah, was a torture-camp guard at Abu Ghraib, and worked as a mercenary for Blackwater, long after they were pretty much exclusively known for committing war crimes (and had changed their name to avoid the association with said crimes).

My understanding was they actually did have the whole thing planned out years in advance, but then because the original ending got “spoiled” online, EA foolishly decided that having the ending be a surprise was more important than having it be good, so they made them change it.
