While Rust would probably have been a good choice for implementing a new browser, I don’t think Swift deserves the criticism it’s getting in this thread:
It’s pining for the fjords
Imagine intentionally not accommodating your vegan or vegetarian friends. Absolutely deranged behaviour
While the rest of the world shifted left dudes went ahead and shifted right
Also, local software and database is always superior to cloud.
Now there’s an unfounded blanket statement if I ever saw one.
Go is in a good position, yeah. JavaScript has prettier
, which is nice. Java has google-java-format
. Python has ruff
, which is quite good. Kotlin has ktfmt
, which I believe made a mistake with their standards by not following the standard formatting guidelines for the language, but whatever. Uniform and deterministic for the win.
Automatically enforced deterministic formatting is the best, there’s nothing that beats it. The productivity in just being able to format on save knowing that the code will be in the ideally formatted state, along with the anti-bikeshedding properties of this strategy, makes it unbeatable.
Bitwarden is probably a more pragmatic choice for most users, given that it’s free and without having to manage the syncing yourself.
Any password manager is better than the alternative, though.
The correct answer is neither because neither are particularly sensible means of transportation.
Barring that, train good plane bad
Read some books on the subject
Never Split the Difference might be appropriate. Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion is a great read. Getting to Yes/Getting Past No may also be decent.
Understand “what kind of cards you’re sitting on”. Before that even happens, ensure that you have good cards
Concrete example: You’re looking to increase your salary. You can do it either by convincing your current workplace to increase it, or you can look for a new job.
The cards you’re sitting on: How valuable you are to the company, and how likely you are to leave if you don’t get what you want.
How to improve your hand before you get to the negotiating table: Try getting some competing offers for jobs.
If you’re the less experienced negotiator, avoid negotiating live
When negotiating salary for a new position, the recruiter likely has far more experience negotiating. They will know techniques to try to get you to commit to a lower number than is possible. To avoid this from happening, move negotiations from in-person/on the phone to email. Give yourself a lot of time to process all information.
It’s not out of the question to have ‘memory leaks’ - apps accumulating more memory by keeping around references to more and more objects - but memory leaks in the stricter sense of not deallocating objects that you no longer have references to is less likely. Regardless, the OOM killer will come for your app, no matter how good you’ve been about managing your memory, as long as someone else wants to have the memory and you’re the one who has been active the least recently.
It’s definitely not out of the question that a reboot helps, but an app-level memory leak is highly unlikely to be the culprit.
Apps leaking memory in Android are just going to get automatically get killed by the OOM killer, I don’t think a restart is going to address that particular concern.
Completely ridiculous as far as solutions go - the only reason the cars are going too fast in the first place is because the very same government overbuilt the road.
So the alternative to not overbuild the road, saving plenty of money in the process, was always there. This just wastes money then wastes a little bit more to add insult to injury.
3-5 rounds is not at all uncommon in tech, but tech is also known for having completely deranged interview processes.
The jobs are unfortunately very much worth it.
At that point, you’re basically just listening to podcasts. Leaning into it might be a good choice, since there’s no visual element that gets lost when listening to podcasts, as compared to YouTube videos.
I only recognize one country on this map - the one unified Svea Rike.
